Glioma is the most common malignant tumor in the brain. Tumors growing in the thalamus are called thalamic gliomas. Due to their special location, they are relatively rare in clinical practice. At the same time, since the thalamus is a very important organ in the human body, once it is damaged, it is easy to cause a series of clinical manifestations, which can threaten life safety at any time. Can thalamic gliomas be cured? What is the treatment method? Generally speaking, thalamic gliomas are highly malignant and cannot be completely cured. As one of the most important intracranial structures of the thalamus, it has many important functions, and it is easy to damage its tissues if you are not careful, which is very risky. Thalamic gliomas often have no obvious boundaries with the surrounding thalamic tissues, and cannot be extensively removed. During surgery, the tumor is often unable to be completely removed, and there will definitely be residues after surgery, which is prone to recurrence. Various complications are prone to form after surgery, causing patients to fall into coma, hemiplegia and other sequelae. Thalamic gliomas grow in an infiltrative manner and progress rapidly. Even if the tumor is removed surgically as soon as possible, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are required after surgery. If it is not completely removed, the prognosis of such patients will be very poor. In addition to surgical treatment, patients can also use radiotherapy or chemotherapy to control the disease, reduce tumor burden, prolong survival, and improve quality of life. However, since radiotherapy and chemotherapy can damage normal cells in the human body, other protective measures need to be taken. If necessary, polymer gene therapy or immunotherapy can also be performed to promote the death of tumor cells. There is no cure for thalamic gliomas. To be precise, no matter where the glioma grows, there is no way to completely cure it. What's more, the thalamus is located deep in the brain, close to the brainstem. Surgery is very risky and prone to various complications. If it is a highly malignant thalamic glioma, it will be more difficult to treat and the mortality rate will be high. |
