How to treat dry eyes

Dry eye syndrome is a common eye disease, also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca. There are many causes of dry eyes, such as insufficient tear secretion. People who frequently use eye drops or wear contact lenses for a long time will have insufficient tear secretion and cause dry eyes. What are the symptoms of dry eyes?

The most needed nutrient for the eyes is vitamin A. A lack of vitamin A can also cause dry eyes. Eye diseases can also easily cause dry eyes. For example, being outdoors in strong winds for a long time can affect the eyes and cause dry eyes. However, many people do not know much about the symptoms of dry eye syndrome. Below we will introduce to you the symptoms of dry eye syndrome.

Insufficient tear production or excessive tear evaporation can cause eye irritation and a burning sensation. Symptoms may include a foreign body sensation, dryness, no tears due to external stimuli or emotional impulses, photophobia, increased filamentous sticky secretions, eye pain and burning sensation, fatigue, repeated conjunctival congestion, spasmodic itching, and fluctuating vision. The most common symptoms were persistent foreign body sensation (61%) and dry eyes (59%), followed by fatigue and photophobia (30.5%). In the late stage of the disease, the ocular surface tissue may thicken, ulcerate or scar, and new blood vessels may grow. If scarring of the cornea occurs, vision loss may occur.

The above are the main symptoms of dry eye syndrome. When you experience this situation, you must seek timely treatment. There are two types of treatments for dry eye: local treatment and systemic treatment. Local treatment can be achieved by removing the cause of the disease, and systemic treatment can be achieved by supplementing nutrition, eating more foods rich in vitamin A, eating more foods rich in carotene, etc.
