Calories of chestnuts

Chestnuts often appear in our sight. You can see chestnuts on some small stalls on the street. Because chestnuts have high energy, they can attract many people in this regard. Generally, there are two ways to eat chestnuts. One is to fry them and eat them as snacks. The other is to cook chestnuts as a cooking ingredient. For example, chestnut braised chicken is also a delicious dish.

The taste of chestnut is unique. Nowadays, chestnut is used in more and more applications, and even on some cakes. Because the flavor of chestnuts can add more sweetness. Since chestnuts are so delicious, how many calories do chestnuts contain?

Are chestnuts high in calories?

It is best to eat chestnuts as a snack between meals, or cook them in meals, rather than eating large amounts after meals. This is because chestnuts contain a lot of starch, and eating them after a meal can easily lead to excessive intake of calories, which is not conducive to maintaining weight.

In this chestnut season, the sugar-fried chestnuts on the street, the chestnut soup and chestnut stewed with cabbage in restaurants, the chestnut cakes in supermarkets, etc., all make people hungry at first sight. But what is the nutritional value of chestnuts? Chestnuts belong to the nut family, but unlike walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds and other nuts, they are not rich in oil. They are high in starch. The carbohydrate content of dried chestnuts reaches 77%, which is comparable to 75% of cereals; fresh chestnuts also contain as much as 40%, which is 2.4 times that of potatoes. The protein content of fresh chestnuts is 4% to 5%, which is not as much as peanuts and walnuts, but slightly higher than cooked rice.

But in some ways, chestnuts are more nutritious than grains. Chestnuts are rich in vitamins B1 and B2. The content of vitamin B2 is at least 4 times that of rice. Every 100 grams also contains 24 mg of vitamin C, which is incomparable to other grains. It is probably hard for people to imagine that fresh chestnuts contain more vitamin C than tomatoes, which are recognized to be rich in vitamin C, and more than ten times that of apples! Chestnuts also contain a wide range of minerals, including potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, manganese, etc. Although the content is not as high as that of hazelnuts and melon seeds, it is still much higher than ordinary fruits such as apples and pears. In particular, the potassium content is outstanding, which is 4 times higher than apples, which are known to be rich in potassium.

Shiny and oily chestnuts also have high medicinal value. Chestnuts have the functions of strengthening the spleen and stomach, replenishing qi, nourishing the kidneys, and strengthening the heart. They are mainly used to treat nausea, vomiting blood, bloody stools, etc., and are suitable for all ages. Chestnuts are rich in soft dietary fiber and have a lower glycemic index than rice. As long as no sugar is added during processing or cooking, diabetics can also eat them in moderation.

Although chestnuts have high nutritional and health value, they also need to be eaten properly. Chestnuts cannot be eaten in large quantities at one time. Eating too much can easily cause bloating. You only need to eat 6 to 7 chestnuts a day and persist in doing so to achieve a good nourishing effect.
