Side effects of meningococcal vaccine

Side effects of meningococcal vaccine

The so-called meningococcal meningitis is what we usually call epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis. Although it is only a respiratory disease, it can cause many complications. Moreover, if it is not treated thoroughly, many sequelae will occur, such as deafness or intellectual decline, which are all sequelae that are easy to leave behind by epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis. This shows how harmful this disease is to children.

In order for our babies to grow up healthily, it is very important to inject the meningococcal meningitis vaccine, also known as the meningococcal vaccine. The injection of the meningococcal vaccine can help children effectively prevent the occurrence of meningococcal meningitis, thereby ensuring the health of children. However, the vaccine has certain side effects. So, what are the side effects of the meningococcal vaccine?

After vaccination with this vaccine, the reaction is mild, and there are generally no serious local and systemic reactions. After vaccination, some children may experience local redness and mild pain for 1-2 days; systemic reactions include low-grade fever, with 1%-4% of recipients experiencing a fever exceeding 38.5°C; allergic reactions may occasionally occur. Most recipients experience symptoms 10-24 hours after vaccination and generally recover on their own within 1-2 days. Symptomatic treatment may be provided if necessary.

Precautions for vaccination of meningococcal vaccine

1. After opening the vaccine bottle, add 5 ml of the attached diluent to each vaccine to dissolve, shake well and use immediately;

2. Do not use if the ampoule is broken or there is foreign matter in the bottle;

3. Stay at the vaccination unit for 30 minutes after vaccination to observe the child's reaction and leave if there is no abnormality;

4. After vaccination, take adequate rest, drink plenty of water, keep warm, and avoid strenuous activities.

People who cannot receive the meningococcal vaccine:

1) People with nervous system diseases such as epilepsy, convulsions, brain diseases, and a history of allergies;

2) Fever and acute illness;

3) The active stage of chronic diseases such as kidney disease, heart disease and active pulmonary tuberculosis.

Introduction to the target population for meningococcal vaccine:

Group A meningococcal vaccine is mainly used for children aged 6 to 18 months; group A+C meningococcal vaccine is used for children over 2 years old and adults, and can be used for emergency vaccination for children under 2 years old in epidemic areas.

Knowing the side effects of meningococcal vaccine, many mothers are worried that these side effects will affect the baby's growth and do not want to get the vaccination. In fact, compared with the role it plays, these side effects are really insignificant. Therefore, it is recommended that all mothers make the right judgment and take their babies to get the meningococcal vaccine so that the baby can grow up healthier.
