Teach you how to judge the type of low back pain by looking at your posture

Many people in life have suffered from low back pain, which is a symptom of many orthopedic diseases, such as acute and chronic lumbar muscle strain, lumbar disc herniation, etc. In addition, low back pain can be divided into several types, and the type of low back pain can be determined by the patient's specific posture. So how do you determine the type of low back pain based on your posture? Let’s take a look.

1. Stiff back and waist, difficulty walking:

It is seen in acute lumbar sprain, commonly known as "slipped lumbar spine". It is often an unintentional movement, such as turning around, getting up, etc., and suddenly you feel a slip in your waist, followed by severe pain in your waist. You dare not bend over, you have to walk carefully, and often support your waist with your hands. In severe cases, even turning over is difficult, and coughing will aggravate the pain in your waist. Usually the muscles on one side of the waist are spasmodic and as hard as a board, so some people call it "board-like waist".

When this type of low back pain occurs, you need to go to the hospital for an X-ray to rule out damage to the bone structure, and then you can be diagnosed with "acute lumbar sprain."

2. Normal waist movement, restless type:

It occurs in patients with chronic lumbar myofasciitis, also known as "lumbar muscle strain". Most of them are people who work at a desk or sit for a long time. They feel long-term soreness and discomfort in the waist and back, which is more severe in the morning. The pain will be relieved a little after a short movement, but the pain will worsen again if they move for a while longer. They cannot sit for a long time and need to change postures constantly. Lumbar muscle strain generally does not affect the flexion and extension activities of the lumbar spine, and the posture is basically normal.

3. Standing like a leaning tower, lying like a bent bow:

It is seen in lumbar disc herniation, manifested as low back pain accompanied by strip-like discharge-like pain in one or both lower limbs. When standing, the upper body tilts to one side, the "spine" is not a straight line but a slight arc, and the shoulders on both sides are obviously not at the same height. When lying in bed, one cannot lie on one's back with legs straight, but often lies on one's side with the waist and knees bent. This position can relieve the pain in the waist and legs to a certain extent. This phenomenon is medically known as "compensatory scoliosis."

If this happens, you must see a doctor as soon as possible and have a physical examination and X-ray by a specialist to confirm the diagnosis.

4. Bowing waist, intermittent claudication:

It occurs in lumbar spinal stenosis, mostly in middle-aged and elderly people. When walking, his waist was slightly bent forward. After walking for a distance, he had to stop and rest due to worsening pain in his waist and legs. However, when riding a bicycle, he was almost the same as a normal person.

The above is an introduction to how to judge the type of low back pain by looking at your posture. If you observe someone around you exhibiting any of the above postures, you should inform him/her in time and advise him/her to go to the hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible. Of course, these postures should occur frequently. Doing them occasionally does not necessarily mean that there is a problem with your waist.
