Plants that repel mosquitoes

Plants that repel mosquitoes

Whenever summer comes, mosquitoes are not to be outdone and follow closely behind, quietly entering our lives. Don’t be fooled by this little thing, it is quite powerful. If you are accidentally touched by it, a big bump will appear, especially for babies. Some parents want to use medicine to eliminate them, but they are afraid that it will harm their children's health.

Therefore, when the hot summer comes, parents are thinking about whether there is any good way to repel mosquitoes without harming the baby, so that the children can play happily and sleep peacefully. Here I would like to introduce to you several mosquito repellent plants, I hope it will be helpful to you.

Tuberose

Also known as the night-scented tree, it is native to tropical America and the West Indies, and belongs to the genus Tuberose of the Solanaceae family. A perennial evergreen semi-climbing soft shrub, 2-3 meters high, with a gray-brown, relatively smooth trunk and mostly lateral, soft and drooping branches. The leaves are alternate, slightly narrow and long, heart-shaped, with a pointed tip, entire, thin and soft, and covered with soft hairs on the edges. Inflorescence corymbose, axillary or terminal.

Between summer and autumn, clusters of yellow-green or purple bell-shaped flowers will bloom in the leaf axils. The flowers are very small, with a diameter of about 0.5 cm wide and 2 cm long. The flowering period is from March to October, and the peak flowering period is from July to September in summer. The flowers are light yellow-green and arranged in longitudinal inflorescences. When all the flowers are in full bloom, it even creates a spectacular scene where there are more flowers than leaves, like a sky full of twinkling little stars. It usually blooms in the evening, emitting bursts of fragrance, and the mature seeds are mostly black.

Most of these flowers are elegant and beautiful, easy to grow and inexpensive. In addition, when they bloom in summer, they are green and white, which makes people feel cool at first glance. The fragrance of flowers such as tuberose is often refreshing at first, but if you smell it for a long time, it may cause discomfort because it is too strong. It emits a rich fragrance at night, which is mellow and intoxicating. This fragrance scares mosquitoes, making it a great mosquito repellent.

Lavender

Lavender is a fragrant purple flower, also known as the "tranquil perfume plant" and known as the "aromatic herb". Lavender is native to the Mediterranean region, such as Provence, France, and is widely planted in the United Kingdom and Yugoslavia.

The flower language of lavender means "fragrance". When you arrive at a lavender field, you will often be attracted by its special fragrance unconsciously. Therefore, lavender is also known as the "Queen of Vanilla".

Lavender itself has insecticidal effects. People usually make lavender sachets and put them in cupboards. Some people also put them in the bedroom to repel mosquitoes.

The above two plants have a good mosquito repellent effect. I hope that when the hot summer comes, you can buy some and put them at home. In this way, mosquitoes will not dare to approach, and babies don’t have to worry about being bitten by mosquitoes when playing. I hope these plants can give everyone a comfortable summer and give babies a happy childhood.
