Recently, tests were conducted in the indoor air testing room of the Building Environment Testing Center of Tsinghua University and found that under the average temperature of normal mobile phone use, mobile phone cases will release the toxic substance formaldehyde. Among them, the leather mobile phone case released the highest amount of formaldehyde, which is 0.25 mg/cubic meter, more than twice the value specified by the national standard for indoor air.

The survey also found that plastic phone cases bought from street stalls had the highest benzene release, at 0.0494 mg/cubic meter, while leather phone cases bought from shopping malls had the lowest benzene release, at 0.0191 mg/cubic meter. However, both were below the national standard for indoor air quality of 0.11 mg/cubic meter.

Most of these mobile phone cases sold at roadside stalls and small shops do not have standardized product information labeled on them, and some are even only packaged in a plastic bag. Almost all of these phone cases emit pungent odors to varying degrees, and some even fade.

Avoid playing with your phone in small spaces like bed. Benzene and formaldehyde are carcinogens recognized by the World Health Organization. They are volatile organic compounds and will be released from mobile phone cases. .

Zhang Jinliang, a researcher at the Environmental Pollution and Health Research Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences, said that in addition to causing cancer, long-term, low-concentration exposure to formaldehyde can cause headaches, dizziness, fatigue, reduced immunity, drowsiness, memory loss, neurasthenia, and depression. Long-term chronic exposure to benzene may damage the blood and nervous systems.

Xue Kaixian, a researcher at the Molecular Biology and Genetics Laboratory of Jiangsu Cancer Hospital, reminded that cell phone covers that are too poor in quality are definitely not good for the body. If the mobile phone case you are using contains formaldehyde, the formaldehyde will not enter the body through the respiratory system in outdoor, office and other environments. But if you are in a small space, such as making calls, sending messages or playing with your phone in bed, the formaldehyde contained in the phone case may affect your body.

First of all, try not to choose a phone case with too bright colors. Because brightly colored products may contain large amounts of heavy metals, frequent contact will enter the human body through the skin and have a certain destructive effect on the kidneys and liver.

Secondly, be careful of anything with a pungent odor or that stings your eyes.

Finally, be careful when choosing products that feel too soft, too hard, or that fade in color. Benzene-based organic solvents are likely to remain during the production process of this type of product. It is recommended that you buy pure leather or silicone mobile phone cases produced by regular manufacturers, and do not choose plastic products.
