What's wrong with lots of belching and farting

Belching and farting frequently are problems that many people have. This problem is caused by many reasons. Just taking belching, also known as hiccups, as an example, there are functional hiccups, denervation hiccups and peripheral nerve hiccups, which are all the main causes of belching. Of course, belching caused by different reasons requires different treatment methods. Next, I will introduce to you the reasons for belching!

1. Functional hiccups

Most of them are caused by normal and healthy people after meals, drinking alcohol or sudden stimulation. This type of hiccup usually lasts for a short time and is mostly caused by the irritation of the diaphragm when swallowed food passes through the esophagus. There is also a type of psychogenic hiccups that is also functional, which is mostly caused by some kind of mental stimulation or bad suggestions. It may also be accompanied by other symptoms of varying degrees, such as sensory and motor dysfunction, visceral organ and autonomic nervous system dysfunction, and mental abnormalities.

(II) Central nervous system

1. Neurological: It is more common in patients with neurological brain diseases such as encephalitis, brain tumors, hydrocephalus, meningitis and cerebrovascular accidents (i.e. cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral thrombosis and subarachnoid hemorrhage, etc.), rabies, tetanus, etc. When the above-mentioned lesions spread to the medulla oblongata and hiccups occur frequently, it often indicates that the condition is worsening.

2. Poisoning: It can be seen in patients with alcohol poisoning, cyclopropane, lead, barbiturate poisoning, systemic infection accompanied by toxemia such as typhoid fever and toxic dysentery, etc. Gout accompanied by renal failure can cause hiccups, indicating a poor prognosis of the disease.

3. Peripheral nerve hiccups are mainly caused by stimulation of the vagus nerve and phrenic nerve.

1. Thoracic and lung diseases: such as mediastinal tumors, esophageal tumors or mediastinal lymphadenopathy, pericarditis, pulmonary pleural or bronchial diseases, etc.

2. Diaphragm diseases: pneumonia with diaphragmatic pleurisy, diaphragmatic hernia, etc.

3. Intra-abdominal diseases: Any cause that can increase the intra-abdominal pressure or irritate the diaphragm can cause hiccups, such as gastric dilatation, overeating, gastrointestinal flatulence, gastritis, gastric cancer, subphrenic abscess, intestinal obstruction, hepatobiliary diseases, abdominal distension after abdominal surgery, acute appendicitis, hemorrhagic pancreatitis, diffuse peritonitis, etc. Abdominal factors can cause neurological reflex hiccups or can be caused by irritation of the diaphragm.
