Is it okay to have a breakfast checkup?

Many units organize physical examinations for their employees every year, but many people do not know the precautions for physical examinations and always do them after breakfast. As a result, every time they go to the hospital, they are always complained by the doctor, resulting in many items not getting correct results due to breakfast problems. So, what impact does eating breakfast have on physical examinations? Let me give you a detailed analysis below!

If you are going to have a medical examination, please do not eat anything for 10 hours before. Generally speaking, physical examinations involve fasting blood tests, most of which are biochemical tests, such as liver function, blood sugar, protein, lipids, and electrolytes potassium, sodium, chloride, etc. The reference values of biochemical tests are obtained after statistical processing of the values measured in the fasting blood of healthy people. This is because the venous blood drawn in the morning before meals has relatively stable biochemical components, and the various values measured can more truly reflect the biochemical changes in the body.

If blood is drawn after a meal, the biochemical components of the blood (such as blood sugar, blood lipids, etc.) will undergo temporary changes. The measured results cannot reflect the true condition of the body and cannot be compared with the reference values measured from fasting blood. Therefore, accurate clinical judgments cannot be made. Although you are on an empty stomach, you do not have to abstain from water. Drinking a small amount of water generally will not have a significant impact on the test results. However, drinking large amounts of water should be avoided as this can dilute the blood and affect the results of tests such as blood cell counts, making them lower than the actual value.

What are the items that require fasting examination? There are four main items of fasting physical examination, including: blood test, abdominal B-ultrasound, carbon-13 (stomach examination), and whole-body infrared thermal imaging.

If you want a more comprehensive physical examination, it is best to do it on an empty stomach, because most people need to have their blood tested during the physical examination, and blood tests require fasting to get more accurate data. So it is best not to eat anything during the physical examination. You can bring some food with you, and it is not too late to eat after the physical examination.
