Things to note when doing gum repair surgery

Teeth are very important to us. No matter who we are, we cannot live without teeth, so we must protect our teeth. However, in our lives, many people's teeth become deformed due to various reasons, or some diseases occur, so they have to repair and treat their teeth. For example, gum repair surgery is a common method of treating teeth. Let us now learn about the precautions of gum repair surgery.

Preoperative preparation:

Ask your doctor about possible complications of the procedure and keep a positive attitude.

1. If there are boils, herpes or erosions on the skin of the lips, appropriate treatment is required first and surgery should not be performed rashly.

2. Maintain oral hygiene and rinse your mouth with Dobell's solution. If you have gum or periodontal disease, you should cure it before surgery.

Surgical method:

1. For patients with maxillary protrusion

Orthognathic surgery is usually used to move the protruding maxilla back to its normal position. This type of surgery must be performed with precise measurements and specialized surgical instruments. It is very traumatic, requires a long recovery time, and has certain risks, and is very demanding on doctors and hospitals. However, orthognathic surgery has the power to turn decay into magic, and can greatly improve the patient's appearance.

2. For tooth deformity

Generally, correction is done through orthodontic treatment, which can be done in a dental hospital or dental clinic. It just takes 6 months to 1 year. Some people extract or grind off the protruding teeth for convenience, and then replace them with porcelain teeth. This method is not advisable because no matter how good the artificial teeth are, they are not as good as one's own teeth.

3. For patients with short upper lip

Surgery can be used to increase the height of the upper lip (the height of the lip refers to the height of the lip skin, excluding the red lip), which are introduced as follows:

Extraoral method: Use bilateral nasal alar triangular flap method to increase the height of the upper lip. This method can immediately increase the height of the long lips, but a scar will be left at the bottom of the upper lip and nose.

Intraoral method: make an incision in the maxillary vestibule groove, find the quadratus labii superioris muscles on both sides, cut the muscles, and appropriately lengthen the mucosal tissue at the frenulum to relax the upper lip; this method cannot increase the height of the upper lip in the short term, and must rely on the patient's long-term lip function training to be effective.

Postoperative care:

1. The stitches are usually removed 3 to 6 days after lip surgery. If the wound tension is high, the operation may be postponed for 2 to 3 days.

2. Oral and lip activities should be reduced after surgery, liquid food or fluid replacement should be taken within 3 days, and antibiotics should be used routinely to prevent infection.

3. Lip cosmetic surgery often uses the wound exposure method. The wound can also be covered for 1 to 2 days and then exposed. Wipe the wound with 75% alcohol 1 to 2 times a day and apply antibiotic ointment to keep the area clean.

After reading some of the precautions for gum repair surgery introduced above, we hope that it will be helpful to friends who are going to undergo gum repair surgery. We should also pay attention to our oral hygiene and protect our teeth. We should do preventive work when there are no problems with our teeth. It is best to brush your teeth every morning and evening.
