How to prevent recurrence of erythema nodosum?

Erythema nodosum is an immune disease and a recurring disease. Patients must be aware of preventing recurrence after the disease is under control. Therefore, after effective treatment, they must take more preventive and health care measures in their lives to prevent recurrence of the disease. So, in daily life, how can we prevent the recurrence of erythema nodosum? Let’s learn about it together below.

Currently, patients with erythema nodosum have more or less the following misunderstandings during the treatment process: When the patient first develops the disease, they do not have a comprehensive understanding of erythema nodosum and are not clear about the cause of the disease. Western medicine takes effect quickly and cures quickly. In cases of bitterness and trouble, antibiotics and hormones are used for treatment. When the disease is controlled by antibiotics and hormones, it is considered cured. After stopping the treatment, the disease relapses or even rebounds and worsens. The patient seeks medical advice everywhere and abuses antibiotics and hormones in large quantities, causing a vicious cycle, relapse, and rebound and worsening of the disease. The patient then believes that erythema nodosum is an incurable disease that cannot be completely cured, and loses confidence in treatment. This is an unscientific and wrong understanding.

First of all, the reason for this phenomenon is that erythema nodosum is an allergic disease caused by pathogenic bacteria that mutate in the body after infection. Currently, the development and scientific research in the West has not yet achieved a specific drug that can cure pathogenic allergic diseases. Relying solely on antibiotics and adrenal glucocorticoids to control the disease will not lead to a complete cure, and it is necessary to resort to traditional Chinese medicine to cure erythema nodosum. Some patients said that they had never taken any Western medicine and had been relying on Chinese medicine for treatment since they got the disease, but their symptoms kept recurring! There are several possibilities for this situation:

(1) The patient did not use the medicine thoroughly during the treatment process and did not take it completely according to the doctor's instructions. The clinical manifestations of erythema nodosum disappear after the symptoms of the disease stop. The symptoms are only temporarily suppressed or controlled by drugs, but the disease itself is not completely cured. If the symptoms disappear and treatment is stopped, the rebound of the disease cannot be called a relapse;

(2) Instead of treating erythema nodosum, the disease is treated as other conditions, which is effective but not a cure;

(3) Although the treatment was based on erythema nodosum, there was no systematic diagnosis and investigation to identify the cause of the disease. The treatment was not completely appropriate and was not comprehensive or systematic.

Eliminate the causes: In daily life, everyone should pay attention to eliminating various factors that induce or aggravate erythema nodosum. When going out, avoid exposure to the sun, avoid contact with harmful substances (such as hair dyes), and eat less or no spicy food. In addition, you should maintain good health, avoid various surgeries, and female patients should avoid using oral contraceptives. Some drugs can also induce or aggravate erythema nodosum, such as isoniazid, anticonvulsants, etc.

Strengthen exercise and pay attention to rest. Patients with erythema nodosum need to stay in bed during the attack period. After the condition stabilizes, they can exercise moderately, but avoid exercise that is too labor-intensive. Tai Chi and jogging are acceptable. Also, pay attention to eating more meat and fish, and try to eat freshwater fish. Eat more foods such as watermelon, apples, peaches, millet, corn, sweet potatoes and mung beans.
