How to protect dentures

Dentures are a necessary measure after we have damaged teeth. They are mainly artificial imitations of teeth, which are helpful for the beauty of our teeth and the function of chewing food. Generally, there will be a period of adaptation, and people will usually get used to it after a long time. However, when using dentures, we must also pay attention to the method and hygiene to avoid serious damage to the teeth. Let us learn how to protect dentures.

1. Do not modify dentures on your own

When you first wear dentures, some people may experience a foreign body sensation, slurred speech, or even nausea and pain. At this time, you should try to persist in the trial as much as possible. If the symptoms do not improve after a period of time, you can go to the hospital and ask the doctor to modify the dentures. Never do it yourself and cause damage to the dentures.

2. Wear and remove dentures gently

Removable dentures can be put on and taken off freely, but when putting them on, you should slowly put the dentures in the appropriate position with your hands, and then press them gently to make them completely in place. Do not use excessive force when removing or putting on dentures, or bite dentures to prevent deformation or breakage.

3. Don’t chew hard or sticky food

Ordinary dentures are mostly made of hard plastic with a brittle texture. They can easily break when biting hard food. Sticky food can easily stick to the dentures and even cause the dentures to be swallowed into the liver along with the food.

4. Keep your dentures clean

After each meal, take it off and brush it once, then rinse your mouth; before going to bed, brush it clean with toothpaste or soap and soak it in clean water. Do not use boiling water or any medicine to soak it, so as not to affect its life and quality.

5. Dentures should be replaced after seven to eight years of use

This is not only because the plastic used to make dentures is prone to aging and the metal is prone to fatigue, which can easily cause dentures to break, but also because their occlusal surfaces are worn flat, affecting their chewing function.

Through the above introduction, we know how to protect dentures. During the use of dentures, they should be protected just like real teeth. Although the protection and use methods are slightly different, we still need to take care of dentures as we do real teeth. If they are used improperly or without paying attention to hygiene, it will also affect our normal life.
