How to wash moldy clothes

Due to the hot and humid weather, or when the seasons change, washed clothes are prone to mold. When most people see mold on clothes, they often don’t know how to remove it. We may buy new clothes, but it would be a waste, and once clothes grow mold, it is a very depressing thing. How can we make our clothes look like new without any mildew spots? Now we will teach you how to wash away mildew spots.

Mung Bean Sprouts

It is the bean sprouts we usually eat. Put the green bean sprouts on the mold spot and rub them vigorously with both hands. It will become cleaner each time you rub it. After rubbing it a few more times, it will be clean. It is that simple.

Sun exposure

The mildew spots on clothes can be exposed to sunlight for a period of time, then use a brush to brush off the mildew, and finally use alcohol to wash off the mildew spots.

Soapy water

Soak the clothes contaminated by mildew in strong soapy water, take out the clothes with soapy water, and put them in the sun for a while, repeat several times, and after the mildew is removed, wash them with clean water.

White clothes

White clothes with mildew spots can be wiped with a 2% soap and alcohol solution (add a handful of soap flakes to the alcohol and stir evenly), then wiped with bleach or hydrogen peroxide, and finally washed.

Silk clothing

Mildew spots on silk need to be washed with citric acid and then rinsed with cold water.

If there are mildew spots on cotton clothes, you can use a few mung bean sprouts, rub the mildew spots repeatedly, and then rinse them with clean water, and the mildew spots will be removed.

If mold spots appear on woolen clothes, put the clothes in the sun for a few hours first. After they are dry, gently brush off the mold spots with a brush. If the mold is caused by oil stains or sweat stains, you can use a soft-bristled brush dipped in some gasoline, repeatedly scrub the moldy spots, then wipe them repeatedly with a clean towel and place them in a ventilated place to dry.

If there are mold spots on silk clothes, first soak the silk in water and scrub it with a brush. If there are many and heavy mildew spots, you can apply some 5% alcohol solution on the mildew spots and scrub them repeatedly to quickly remove the mildew spots. Alternatively, wash with citric acid and rinse with cold water.

If there are mildew spots on leather clothes, you can first wipe them repeatedly with a towel dipped in soapy water. After removing the dirt, rinse them immediately with clean water, then dry them, and then apply some jacket oil.

If there are mildew stains on synthetic clothes, you can use a brush dipped in strong soapy water to scrub them, then rinse them with warm water and the mildew stains can be removed.

If there are mildew spots on cotton and linen clothes, the original colored ones can be exposed in the sun, and the colored ones should be placed in a ventilated place to dry. After the clothes are dry, you can brush off the mildew spots with a brush. If woolen clothing is moldy, do not expose it to the sun directly. Cover the clothes with white cloth and brush off the mold stains after the clothes are dry. Alternatively, it can be cleaned with calcium chloride solution.

Mold stains on silk and wool fabrics should be scrubbed with a cotton ball dipped in turpentine, and then exposed to the sun to remove moisture.

The mildew stains on cotton and linen fabrics should first be soaked with a diluted solution of 20 grams of ammonia and 1 liter of water, and then rinsed with water.

If the above methods do not work, you can try wiping it with a 35-60°C hot hydrogen peroxide solution or bleach solution, and then rinse it with water.

Now everyone knows what methods are used to remove mold spots. In fact, there are many methods, and you can try each of them. However, after treating the moldy clothes, you still have to wait until the weather is clear and take the clothes outdoors to dry. Generally, wool fabrics and fur clothing can be dried in the sun. Fur clothing should be dried with the fur facing outwards for three or four hours, and then shake off the dust after it is cool in the shade. After drying clothes, store them properly. When storing clothes, you can put some mothballs and camphor blocks in the box.
