How to brush your teeth during orthodontic treatment

Teeth are very important body parts of the human body. After teeth are replaced in adolescence, if they fall out due to disease or other reasons, new teeth will no longer grow. Therefore, we must take special care of our teeth in normal times. If you don't take good care of your teeth, it will be bad for your health. So how do you brush your teeth during orthodontic treatment? Let us introduce it below.

First of all, you need to choose a suitable toothbrush. You can choose a special orthodontic toothbrush and interdental brush. Secondly, you should brush your teeth at least three times a day, preferably after every meal. Each brushing should last more than 3 minutes, and every tooth surface should be brushed. After wearing braces, pay special attention to the areas around the braces, especially under the archwire, where teeth are not aligned properly, where teeth have been extracted, the devices on the back teeth, and the gum margin, which are difficult to reach with ordinary brushing methods. If conditions permit, you can use plaque-disclosing fluid to check the effectiveness of brushing. Make sure every tooth surface is brushed clean.

However, after wearing fixed braces, brushing teeth becomes more difficult due to the obstruction of the braces, and a special orthodontic toothbrush is needed for cleaning. Orthodontic toothbrushes have smaller heads, softer bristles, and a different shape than regular toothbrushes. It comes in two shapes. A toothbrush has shorter bristles in the middle and longer bristles on both sides, forming a "U" shape when viewed from the top. When brushing teeth, the patient can point the middle area with short bristles toward the bracket, and the long bristles will fall on the teeth, thereby cleaning the teeth. Another type of toothbrush is just the opposite. The bristles in the middle are longer and the bristles on both sides are shorter. It can focus on brushing one side of the bracket, while the area with short bristles can remove food debris in the gap of the bracket. Whether the two toothbrushes are used independently or in combination, both can achieve a cleaning effect. In addition to orthodontic toothbrushes, you can also choose to brush your teeth with interdental brushes during treatment. The brush head of the interdental brush is very small and can reach into small places such as around the brackets and under the archwires, cleaning these places that are difficult to reach with an ordinary toothbrush.

The question of how to brush your teeth during orthodontic treatment has been clearly introduced above. If you are undergoing orthodontic treatment, you can brush your teeth according to the method described above. This will keep the teeth in a healthier state even during orthodontic treatment. There will be no dental disease due to not brushing your teeth properly.
