What are the harms of argon arc welding to the body

The rapid economic development in modern society has spawned many emerging occupations, such as electric welding, among which argon arc welding is a more representative high-tech electric welding. However, advanced technology has certain negative effects. Argon arc welding can produce some harmful substances that have a greater impact on the body. So, what are the harms of argon arc welding to the body? Let’s take a look at the explanation below.

1) The thorium in the radioactive thorium tungsten electrode is a radioactive element, but the radiation dose of the thorium tungsten electrode during tungsten inert gas arc welding is very small and within the allowable range, so the harm is not great. If radioactive gases or particles enter the human body as an internal radiation source, it will seriously affect physical health.

(2) When high-frequency electromagnetic field is used for high-frequency arc ignition, the intensity of the high-frequency electromagnetic field generated is between 60 and 110 V/m, which is several times higher than the reference health standard (20 V/m). But because the time is very short, it has little impact on the human body. If the arc is struck frequently, or a high-frequency oscillator is used continuously as an arc stabilizing device during the welding process, the high-frequency electromagnetic field may become one of the harmful factors.

(3) Harmful gases - ozone and nitrogen oxides. During argon arc welding, the arc column temperature is high. The intensity of ultraviolet radiation is much greater than that of general arc welding, so a large amount of ozone and oxynitrides will be generated during the welding process; especially ozone, its concentration far exceeds the reference health standards. If effective ventilation measures are not taken, these gases will have a great impact on human health and are the most important harmful factors in argon arc welding.

The harm of argon arc welding to the body is greater than that of ordinary electric welding, because this type of electric welding can produce relatively strong radiation, which will have a negative effect on the body. Therefore, the hazards of argon arc welding cannot be underestimated. It is recommended that people take all protective measures when using argon arc welding.
