What harm does zinc do to the human body

What people are most concerned about in today's society is how to maintain health. How to eat well and how to eat healthily are the top priorities. When people eat, they consider the price as well as the nutrient intake, which shows that people's concepts are changing. The most common ones we hear about are trace elements such as calcium, iron, zinc, selenium and vitamins. Zinc, a trace element, is something we consume every day. What harm does zinc do to the human body? Let’s find out together.

Zinc is an essential trace element for the human body. The normal human body contains 2 to 2.5 grams of zinc. However, excessive intake of zinc into the human body can also cause poisoning. Acute zinc poisoning is mostly caused by air and water pollution, or accidental ingestion of large amounts of zinc compounds, such as zinc sulfate, zinc acetate, zinc chloride, zinc oxide, etc. The main symptoms are gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and diarrhea. Inhalation of large amounts of zinc vapor can cause acute metal fume fever. Chronic zinc poisoning is extremely rare. However, the gap between zinc supply and toxic dose is very close, that is, the safety belt is very narrow. For example, the human zinc supply is 10-20 mg/d, and the toxic dose is 80-400 mg. The incubation period of zinc poisoning is very short, only a few minutes to 1 hour. Clinically, the main manifestations are gastrointestinal irritation symptoms, such as nausea, persistent vomiting, upper abdominal cramps, burning and numbness in the mouth, accompanied by dizziness and general discomfort. The body temperature does not rise, and may even decrease. Severely poisoned people may collapse due to severe vomiting and diarrhea. The course of the disease is short and recovery can be achieved in a few hours to a day. Several cases of zinc poisoning caused by using zinc barrels to hold vinegar have been reported in China.

From the above-mentioned hazards of zinc, we can understand that everything has its pros and cons and is not absolute. As a trace element in dietary fiber, it plays a significant role in the body's nutritional intake, but the harm of zinc to the human body cannot be ignored. When taking zinc, it is most important to take it in moderation to avoid dangerous situations such as poisoning, vomiting, diarrhea, and burning sensations.
