How are acute brain tumors treated?

Patients with acute brain tumors will show symptoms of intracranial hypertension such as headaches, vomiting, or eye deviation. When facing this disease, it is important to take surgical treatment in a timely manner according to the condition, because surgical treatment is the best treatment method to improve symptoms after a clear diagnosis.

1. Symptoms

The main manifestations are increased intracranial pressure and tumor lesions. Such as symptoms of intracranial hypertension such as headache, vomiting, eye deviation and diplopia. Headache and vomiting are often more severe after defecation, and headache may be temporarily relieved after vomiting. Focal symptoms such as facial or limb paralysis, lameness, gait dysphoria, nystagmus, decreased visual A, lobulophthalmos, growth retardation, precocious puberty, diabetes insipidus, etc. may occur. At the same time, there are often symptoms such as increased blood pressure, bradycardia, hyperactivity, irritability and lack of energy.

2. Treatment

Surgery

The purpose of surgical treatment is to clarify the diagnosis, improve symptoms, reduce tumor burden, remove necrotic and hypoxic tissue, and create conditions for other treatments. The principle of surgical treatment is to remove the tumor as much as possible while preserving nerve function. If the early stage tumor is small and located in the appropriate position, we can strive to remove it completely. Once a brain tumor is diagnosed, treatment should be sought promptly and without delay, lest the best time for treatment is lost.

3. Cooperate with radiotherapy guidance

(1) Shave the hair in the radiotherapy area and keep it clean.

(2) After positioning yourself for radiotherapy, do not move on your own to avoid irradiation errors.

(3) Radiotherapy should be contraindicated in patients with significantly increased intracranial pressure, impaired consciousness, or confusion.

(4) Keep the skin in the radiation field clean, dry, and intact. Do not rub, scratch, expose to the sun, scrub with soap, or apply irritating drugs. Prevent physical and chemical irritation and keep the irradiation field markings clear.

(5) Check blood count regularly, once a week. If the white blood cell count is below 4,000 and the platelet count is above 100,000, radiotherapy should be stopped and medication should be used.
