(IV) Although stones in any part of the ureter can be crushed with extracorporeal shock waves, it is sometimes difficult to locate stones in patients with small stones or who are obese, and the stones are deep and require a lot of energy. Compared with crushing kidney stones, crushing ureteral stones is relatively more difficult and the overall effect is worse than that of crushing kidney stones.

For those who have difficulty, excretory urography or retrograde cystoscopic catheterization and urography can be performed simultaneously to assist in positioning. Experts say that for smaller stones in the lower ureter, ureteral dilation, stone removal and tube opening can be performed through cystoscopy.
