What are the causes of spasmodic torticollis

Spasmodic torticollis is a common disease that mainly occurs in some white-collar workers. There are many reasons for spasmodic torticollis, including bone dislocation, psychological reasons, trauma, etc., all of which may lead to the occurrence of spasmodic torticollis.

1. Dislocation of cervical vertebrae

Through nerve spasm and facial paralysis spasm, oblique nerve compression of cervical vertebrae dislocation causes paralysis of facial muscles, disappearance of forehead wrinkles, widening of palpebral fissure, flattening of nasolabial groove, drooping corners of mouth, and crooked corners of mouth with exposed teeth, which is the root of facial paralysis.

2. Psychological factors

Psychological factors can easily cause facial paralysis: Surveys show that psychological factors are one of the important factors that cause facial nerve paralysis. Before facial nerve paralysis occurs, a considerable number of patients suffer from physical fatigue, lack of sleep, mental tension and physical discomfort.

3. Infection

About 42.5% of patients with facial nerve palsy are caused by infection. Infectious lesions are mostly caused by the activation of VZV, which is dormant in the sensory ganglion of the facial nerve.

In addition, meningitis, mumps, influenza, scarlet fever, malaria, multiple cranial neuritis, local infection, etc. can also cause it. It is worth noting that Lyme disease is a tick-borne infection. This disease is regional and more common in summer. People living in forest areas and rural areas are more susceptible to the disease; ear-related diseases such as otitis media, labyrinthitis, mastoiditis, and suppurative inflammation of the temporal bone.

4. Traumatic

About 8.2%. Skull base fracture, temporal bone fracture, facial trauma, surgery, facial injection of neurotoxic drugs such as alcohol nerve distribution area, penicillin and botulinum toxin and other drugs are the most common causes of traumatic facial paralysis. In addition, about 5.5% of patients are caused by tumors, which can be caused by the tumor itself and surgically removed tumors.

In addition, before the onset of the disease, most patients had their head exposed to cold wind, cold water and other stimuli, such as being blown by an electric fan or being exposed to cold water; a small number of patients had a history of fatigue before the onset of the disease and their immunity was relatively reduced.
