Can trachoma be cured?

If trachoma is found, timely treatment must be sought. However, when it comes to treatment, you need to pay attention to the correct method of choosing the right medication. You can choose local medication. Commonly used eye drops include rifampicin and fulamicin. Using them 3 to 4 times a day can effectively relieve the symptoms.

1. Once trachoma is discovered, it should be treated promptly. The treatment method can be local medication. Commonly used eye drops include 0.05%-0.1% rifampicin, 10%-30% sodium sulfacetamide, 0.1% phthalamide, etc., 3-4 times a day, and eye ointment once at night, such as 0.5% tetracycline eye ointment, 0.5% chloramphenicol eye ointment, etc. Systemic medications are rarely used because of the long duration of use and excessive dosage, which can easily cause side effects. Surgery is sometimes also an option.

2. For patients with severe trachoma and many follicles, the treatment can be carried out by friction and compression with a cuttlebone stick. During the operation, attention should be paid to disinfection. The friction technique should not be too heavy and the cornea should not be damaged. When the lesions are severe and extensive, friction can be performed in stages. This method only plays an auxiliary role and still needs to be combined with drug treatment.

3. Severe complications of trachoma, such as trachomatous ptosis, entropion, trichiasis, and symblepharon, can be corrected surgically. For patients with severe corneal pannus, limbal vascular electrocautery may be considered. Traditional Chinese medicine should treat this disease with both internal and external methods. For mild cases, local medication can be used as the main method. For severe cases, in addition to eye drops, internal treatment should be combined with eye drops. The basic treatment method is to dispel wind and heat, and promote blood circulation and dredge collaterals. After getting trachoma, patients may experience symptoms such as itchy eyes, burning sensation, irritation, and tearing. The infection is highly contagious during this period, so isolation is required.

4. In addition to invading the conjunctiva, Chlamydia trachomatis often invades the cornea, causing many new blood vessels to appear on the cornea, affecting vision and even causing ulcers. Treatment of trachoma Trachoma can be cured as long as it is well treated in the early stages. The early stage of trachoma mainly relies on strengthening local medication. Commonly used ones are sulfonamide eye drops, rifampicin eye drops, etc., which should be used in the eyes 4 to 6 times a day. You can apply some eye ointment before going to bed at night. Severe cases can be treated with surgery.

5. For late-stage trachoma, the main focus is on complications, and most patients require surgical treatment. Trachoma is a chronic eye disease that requires consistent medication. Otherwise, not only will trachoma not be cured, but Chlamydia trachomatis will develop drug resistance.
