How to self-check thyroid nodules is so simple

Thyroid nodules are a common disease in recent years and have a serious impact on human health. Therefore, it is particularly important to learn how to self-examine thyroid nodules so as to achieve early detection and early treatment. In fact, in life, the self-examination method of thyroid nodules is very simple. You just need to practice it repeatedly in front of the mirror a few times and you will be able to do it.

1. Self-examination method for thyroid nodules: Face the mirror, stretch your neck, swallow your saliva, and see if there is any lump moving up and down with the swallowing movement. Then place the thumb of your right hand on the right side of the trachea under the Adam's apple, and touch the left side of the trachea with the other fingers. When swallowing, feel whether there is any lump sliding under your fingers. Similarly, use your left hand to check the right side of the trachea. If you find a lump after self-examination, or have recent changes in voice, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or an irritating cough, you should get thyroid-related tests done promptly.

Thyroid nodules can be seen in all age groups, especially in middle-aged and elderly people, and the incidence rate in women is 4-6 times that of men. The vast majority of patients with thyroid nodules have no clinical symptoms in the early stages of benign lesions and are often discovered through physical examination, self-touch or imaging examinations.

2. Different types of thyroid nodules have different symptoms

1. Malignant nodules: When the nodules compress the surrounding tissues, or when they are malignant thyroid nodules, corresponding clinical manifestations may occur, such as hoarseness, breath holding, dyspnea, swallowing discomfort, facial edema, etc.

2. Nodules combined with hyperthyroidism: Corresponding clinical manifestations of hyperthyroidism may appear, such as palpitations, sweating, hand tremors, diarrhea, facial flushing and decreased blood calcium.

3. Nodules combined with hypothyroidism: Clinical manifestations of hypothyroidism may appear, such as fear of cold, anorexia, weight gain, facial edema, and excessive menstruation in women.

4. Nodule necrosis: If necrosis and bleeding occur in the thyroid nodule, the lump in the neck will suddenly increase in size and may cause pain.

In addition, thyroid B-ultrasound examination, thyroid isotope scanning, neck X-ray examination, thyroid fine needle aspiration cytology examination, thyroid function tests, etc. can all diagnose thyroid nodules. In addition, experienced doctors will also judge the nature of thyroid nodules based on the patient's family medical history, physique, and daily living habits!
