What are the CT manifestations of bronchiectasis

In life, some patients with bronchiectasis need to undergo CT examinations to better observe the condition of the disease and whether there are any signs of deterioration. CT examination can more clearly show the changes and trends of bronchial dilation, which will be more helpful for treatment.

1. Columnar bronchiectasis: It is manifested by thickening of the bronchial wall and widening of the lumen, so that the bronchi, which are normally invisible, can be seen in the peripheral part of the lung 3 cm below the pleura. When the course of the dilated bronchus is parallel to the CT scan, it appears as a "track sign", and when it is perpendicular to the scanning plane, it appears as thick-walled. At this time, the dilated bronchi and the accompanying pulmonary arteries form a characteristic "signet ring syndrome". Under normal circumstances, the diameter of the pulmonary artery is slightly larger than the diameter of the accompanying bronchus at the same level. When this size relationship is reversed, it reliably indicates bronchiectasis.

2. Cystic bronchiectasis: manifested as a group or a bundle of multiple air-filled cysts. If the cyst is filled with fluid and resembling a bunch of grapes, the appearance of an air-fluid level within the cyst is a more specific sign of cystic dilatation.

3. Varicose bronchial dilatation: It is manifested as irregular thickening of the bronchial wall, which may appear "rosary-like".

CT diagnosis of bronchiectasis, especially HRCT, is a good and effective method for confirming bronchiectasis by imaging. Correctly understand the imaging manifestations and provide clear diagnostic basis for clinical practice.
