Causes of ankylosing spondylitis, common risk factors

Ankylosing spondylitis usually develops rapidly in male patients, and they also experience fever, weight loss, and joint involvement. They should exercise more, get more massages, quit smoking and drinking, and women should not wear tight underwear.

1. Causes of Ankylosing Spondylitis

1. Form of disease

The age of onset in males is 6 years earlier than in females. Men have an acute onset, severe symptoms, and rapid progression, accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever, fatigue, and weight loss. After the early onset, there is a period of remission without any symptoms, but it is short; female patients have relatively mild symptoms, and the remission period sometimes lasts for several years;

2. Affected joints

After suffering from ankylosing spondylitis, men often experience pain in the lumbar spine, sacroiliac joints, and hip joints; while women often experience swelling and pain in peripheral joints such as the wrists and elbows, especially the knee joints, where the incidence rate is higher than men.

As the disease progresses, the lumbar spine, cervical spine, hip joints and the entire spine are more commonly affected in men, with a high disability rate; women are less likely to have the entire spine affected, but their pubic symphysis is more often affected than men.

3. Female patients do not show X-ray abnormalities within a few years of onset

The anatomical and sex hormone characteristics of the female sacroiliac joint cause sacroiliac joint lesions to remain in the inflammatory stage and ankylosis is rare.

4. Infection

Women bear the important responsibility of bearing and nurturing a new life; therefore, they are more likely to have postpartum infections than men.

2. Joint Function Exercise for Ankylosing Spondylitis

1. Massage: Massage plays an irreplaceable role in treating ankylosing spondylitis morning, noon, noon and night. However, there are strict requirements on the doctor's techniques when performing the operation. We do not recommend that patients with ankylosing spondylitis perform transitional joint functional activities on their own.

2. Pay attention to cold and heat: Different forms of heat will help relieve pain and body stiffness. Many patients take a hot bath in the morning or before going to bed to reduce the pain and stiffness of the disease, and also do some stretching exercises. Hot water bottles and electric blankets are very useful. If patients have particularly inflamed, red and swollen areas, apply ice cubes, but be careful, it may have a bad effect.

3. Patients should pay attention to quitting smoking and drinking: The lung function of patients with ankylosing spondylitis will weaken in the middle and late stages. Smoking will aggravate this situation, making the patient's lungs more susceptible to infection and becoming short of breath. If the patient is a smoker, it is best to consider quitting smoking; a moderate amount of alcohol is not harmful to ankylosing spondylitis, but sedatives and alcohol have a bad effect on the stomach and intestines, so do not use them together.

4. Requirements for lying posture of patients with ankylosing spondylitis: The ideal bed should be relatively firm, without sagging, but not too hard. If you are using a spring mattress, the bottom is not particularly firm. Put a board under the mattress. Don't use a pillow that is too high; one will do.

5. Clothing requirements for ankylosing spondylitis patients: Do not wear tight corsets and braces. Some doctors do not understand the modern treatment of AS and agree that patients should wear tight corsets and braces, which will make the situation worse because they make the spine unable to move and are tight. For ankylosing spondylitis, immobility means inability to move.

The root causes of common diseases in men and women are different. We need to pay attention to the occurrence of this disease in our daily life, and pay attention to proper physical exercise. We need to pay attention to the life matters of men and women. We should pay attention to the lumbar spine and cervical spine. Massage of these parts can effectively promote blood circulation and avoid blood stasis, which affects physical health and can easily cause patients to suffer.
