How are urethral polyps treated?

The occurrence of urethral polyps makes many patients worried and afraid. In fact, it can be treated through many methods. For patients who do not heal for a long time, electrocautery, freezing, laser or surgical resection can be used, as well as high-frequency electrocoagulation and electroresection, and high-frequency electrocautery therapy.

1. Asymptomatic people do not need treatment. Most of them have good results with topical estrogen ointment. For those who do not heal for a long time, electrocautery, freezing, laser or surgical resection can be used.

2. Urethral polyps are granulomas caused by chronic urethritis that cannot be cured by long-term treatment and are benign lesions. If the polyp becomes larger and affects normal urination, it can be surgically removed.

3. Instrumental treatment: The current methods for endoscopic treatment of polyps include: high-frequency electrocoagulation and electroresection, high-frequency electrocautery, laser therapy, microwave therapy, injection removal, cryotherapy, etc.

4. Follow-up examination after polypectomy. It is generally believed that for the resection of a single adenomatous polyp, a follow-up examination should be conducted once in the first year after surgery. If the examination is negative, a follow-up examination should be conducted every 3 years. If multiple adenomas are removed or adenomas are larger than 20 mm and accompanied by atypical hyperplasia, follow-up examinations should be conducted every 3 to 6 months. If the result is negative, the follow-up examination should be conducted once a year. If the result is negative for two consecutive times, the follow-up examination should be conducted once every 3 years. The follow-up examination period should be no less than 15 years.
