What to do with lumbar intervertebral disc stenosis? Correct care is crucial

Lumbar intervertebral disc stenosis is a common disease that often occurs in middle-aged and elderly people. This disease is extremely harmful to the human body. Once you feel unwell, you must actively take care of yourself, pay more attention to rest, sleep on a hard bed, and after the symptoms are alleviated, you should do appropriate exercise and reduce the time you spend in bed.

1. Nursing

In the acute stage of lumbar spinal stenosis, the local protrusion and surrounding tissues are severely edematous, congested, and have severe aseptic inflammation. The patient suffers from severe pain and should absolutely rest on a hard bed and cooperate with treatment. However, when the edema subsides and the pain is relieved (usually around 7 to 20 days), the bed rest time should be reduced and appropriate non-weight-bearing functional exercises should be performed to prevent disuse atrophy of the lumbar muscles. This is what we mean by "combining movement and stillness" that we must pay attention to during the recovery process. Otherwise, even after recovery, the patient is prone to recurring attacks due to weak lumbar muscles.

2. Prevention

(1) Protection of the waist: The bed should be of moderate hardness and softness, not too hard or too soft, so that the waist muscles can get sufficient rest; avoid the waist being invaded by wind and cold, and avoid the waist being in one posture for a long time, which will cause muscle imbalance and cause waist strain.

(2) Use of the waist: Use the waist correctly. When lifting heavy objects, you should squat first. When using the waist for too long, you should change the waist posture. Do more waist exercises to prevent gradual strain. When the waist is overused due to the nature of the work or has already suffered mild strain, you should use drugs such as Yaotongning Capsules as soon as possible to avoid further aggravation of the strain and ultimately cause degenerative changes in the lumbar spine.

(3) Waist health exercises: adhere to waist health exercises, regularly perform lumbar spine movements in all directions to keep the lumbar spine in a physiological stress state, strengthen the waist and abdominal muscle exercises. Strong waist and abdominal muscles can increase the stability of the lumbar spine, enhance the ability to protect the waist, and prevent degenerative changes in the lumbar spine.
