What happens if I haven’t had a bowel movement for several days?

Normally, we will have a bowel movement once a day, but if we have not had a bowel movement for several days, we should pay attention to whether it is a constipation problem. Especially if we do not pay attention to a scientific diet, sit for a long time, or lack beneficial intestinal bacteria, all of which will affect smooth bowel movements.

(1) Causes of deficiency of beneficial intestinal bacteria: After taking antibiotics or other drugs, the beneficial bacteria in the intestines are destroyed, resulting in indigestion and constipation.

(2) Those who lack crude fiber in their diet: Eating out, eating irregularly, and not having time to take in a balanced diet often lead to insufficient intake of crude fiber.

(3) People who do not drink enough water: They are too busy to drink water, which causes dryness in the intestines and makes it difficult for intestinal contents to be discharged. For some people, constipation problems are not improved even after drinking water. This is because the way of drinking water is incorrect. If you drink water slowly, one sip at a time, almost all the water will be absorbed into the blood and excreted from the body through urine.

(4) People who sit for long periods of time: When people sit for long periods of time and lack exercise, their intestinal muscles become loose and their peristaltic function weakens. In addition, women's abdominal muscles are naturally weaker, and the force used to push stool out is small, so they are more prone to constipation.

(5) People with poor bowel habits: People who are busy at work or are pressed for time in the morning do not defecate in time when they feel the urge to do so, and often hold it in. This causes the sensory nerves in the rectum to become dull, resulting in habitual constipation.

(6) People who are overworked or mentally stressed: Overwork and mental stress can inhibit intestinal motility and secretion of digestive juices, leading to indigestion and constipation.
