What are the treatments for diaphragm spasm?

It is acceptable to use some drugs to treat diaphragmatic spasm, but you should consult a doctor before using the drugs. You should not use them blindly to avoid other effects. Common drugs include lidocaine or traditional Chinese medicine.

(1) Cinobufacini: Take 2.4 ml and inject intramuscularly 2 to 3 times a day. Generally, hiccups can be relieved after 1 to 2 injections and usually stop within 2 to 3 days.

(2) Lidocaine: First, add 100 mg of lidocaine to a Murphy tube and drip it intravenously. Then add 500 mg of lidocaine to 500 ml of 10% glucose and drip it intravenously at 30 to 40 drops/min. If the effect is not good after half an hour, add another 100 mg from the Murphy tube. After the hiccups are controlled, maintain it for 1 to 2 days. The total effective rate can reach 95.8%.

(3) Scopolamine: 0.3 mg to 0.6 mg, injected intramuscularly once every 6 to 12 hours until the hiccups stop. Most patients stop taking it within 3 to 7 days.

(4) Other drugs: Some people currently use intramuscular injections of chlorpromazine, metoclopramide (Metoclopramide), diazepam, and phenytoin sodium to relieve hiccups.

(5) In traditional Chinese medicine, hiccups caused by drinking too much and eating too much are diagnosed as stomach distension and food stagnation, which is caused by accumulated heat. The patient is cured by taking Tiao Wei Cheng Qi Tang, which is a heat-clearing and laxative decoction. Some people also use Baohe Pills, Ling Gui Zhu Gan Tang, Huang Qi Jian Zhong Tang and other treatments. Postoperative hiccups can be treated with Liu Wei Di Huang Tang with added ingredients. It is believed that persistent hiccups are caused by blood stasis blocking the collaterals, and can be treated with Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang. There are also single-flavor prescriptions for treatment, such as chewing ginger, chewing Amomum villosum, and ginger juice and honey, all of which can achieve certain therapeutic effects.

(6) External diaphragm pacing treatment method: moderate stimulation 9 times per minute, each treatment lasting 30 to 50 minutes until the hiccups stop. Some patients may need continuous treatment for several days before they are cured.
