What is the cause of pain in the lower left abdomen? These factors should be considered

Frequent abdominal pain should be taken seriously. The causes of pain in different parts of the abdomen are different. If you experience pain in the lower left abdomen, you should be alert to diseases such as proctitis, prostatitis, and ureteral stones. Seek timely diagnosis and treatment without delaying the condition.

1. Left varicocele

Varicocele refers to the dilation and twisting of the veins in the spermatic cord due to obstruction of blood flow. It is a common disease among young and middle-aged people. It refers to the dilation, tortuosity and elongation of the spermatic plexus (venous plexus) due to congestion of blood flow in the spermatic vein. The incidence rate is 10-15% in the male population. This disease mostly occurs on the left side, but bilateral disease is not uncommon, and can be as high as about 20%. There will be a feeling of discomfort in the scrotum and other parts of the body, mainly manifested as a feeling of heaviness and distension in the scrotum and testicles, cold and wet scrotum, distension and dull pain. The uncomfortable feeling will often radiate to the perineum, groin and waist on the same side. The symptoms will worsen after fatigue, long-term walking, strenuous exercise and sexual activity, and can be relieved after lying down and resting.

2. Left inguinal hernia

Left inguinal hernia is divided into oblique hernia and direct hernia according to the different parts of the hernia contents protruding from. The symptoms of left inguinal hernia can be seen or felt. You may find a lump near the groin or groin area. It may disappear when you lie flat. Occasionally you may feel pain and discomfort, which may worsen during exercise.

3. Sigmoiditis/proctitis

The disease usually has a slow onset, the course of the disease can be long, and the onset is persistent or recurrent. The clinical manifestations are mainly gastric symptoms. Patients often have acid reflux, belching, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, a burning sensation under the xiphoid process, fullness after eating, upper abdominal discomfort or pain, and may be accompanied by other common symptoms of neurosis such as fatigue, forgetfulness, headache, palpitations, chest tightness, night sweats, spermatorrhea and anxiety. Common clinical types include: nervous vomiting, nervous belching (aerophagia), anorexia nervosa, etc.

4. Left ureteritis/left ureteral calculi

Symptoms of left ureteral stones may include pain, often severe colic, accompanied by cold sweat, nausea and vomiting. The location and radiation range of pain vary depending on the site of stone obstruction: when the stone is located in the upper ureter, the pain is located in the waist or upper abdomen, and radiates along the ureter to the ipsilateral testicle or labia and inner thigh; when the stone is located in the middle ureter, the pain radiates to the middle and lower abdomen, and the right side is easily confused with acute appendicitis; when the stone is located in the ureteral bladder wall segment or ureteral orifice, it is often accompanied by bladder irritation symptoms and radiating pain in the urethra and glans penis. Colic often occurs after activity, but it does not last long and can be relieved on its own. If the stones are large and cause hydronephrosis, there may be swelling and pain in the lower back. The smaller and more mobile the stones, the more frequent and severe the colic attacks. Larger stones that have been stuck in one place for a long time will only cause a feeling of distension and pain. When colic occurs, there is obvious percussion pain in the kidney area.

5. Prostatitis

The pain mainly occurs in the bladder area, pubic area or perineum area in the lower abdomen. When it is slightly severe, it can radiate to the base of the thigh. Some patients only experience abdominal distension, while others experience testicular discomfort or cramping.
