What does blood in stool mean and what does it relate to?

The health of stool has always been something we need to pay attention to, because we can observe the health of the intestines and the health of the body through the color of the stool. Many people find blood in their stool when they defecate. In this case, we can consider it as common blood in the stool, which may be related to hemorrhoids, indigestion, gastrointestinal disorder, and rectal cancer.

There are more than a dozen diseases that can cause blood in the stool, but the most common ones are only the following:

1. Hemorrhoids with blood in the stool: The blood in the stool occurs during or after defecation. The blood is bright red and does not mix with the feces.

2. Anal fissure and blood in stool: The blood is bright red and can be seen when dripping or wiping with toilet paper. Fresh anal fissures will cause severe anal pain after defecation.

3. Blood in stool due to gastrointestinal diseases: The stool is tarry or black-red, and the bleeding site is mostly in the upper gastrointestinal tract. If the blood is pure red, it is mostly bleeding due to lower gastrointestinal diseases.

4. Rectal cancer and blood in the stool: The blood in the stool is bright red and is attached to the surface of the stool in drops; in the late stage, it is accompanied by anorectal prolapse and general weight loss, increased frequency of bowel movements, and alternating constipation and diarrhea.

5. Rectal blood in stool and colon polyps: The blood is bright red, painless, and does not mix with stool. Ulcerative colitis and dysentery often have stools mixed with mucus or blood and pus, and are accompanied by symptoms such as lower abdominal pain, fever, and frequent bowel movements.

6. Bloody stools due to systemic diseases: such as leukemia, hemophilia, uremia and some rare infectious diseases, there will be bleeding in other parts of the body at the same time as bloody stools.
