What are the symptoms of lower extremity venous thrombosis

Lower limb venous thrombosis is a relatively common disease, which is quite harmful to patients. It often causes patients to have difficulty in moving, induces some other diseases, and often causes edema in patients' lower limbs. It will cause symptoms such as swelling and pain in patients. For patients, it is imperative to receive timely treatment. Once treatment is delayed, it may even pose a great threat to the patient's kidneys.

1. Deep vein thrombosis in the lower leg

Although the deep veins of the calf are the most vulnerable site for thrombosis after surgery, they are often missed. Common symptoms include calf pain and tenderness, mild or no obvious swelling of the calf, and positive Homans sign. Superficial venous pressure is usually normal.

2. Femoral vein thrombosis

The vast majority of femoral vein thrombosis is secondary to deep vein thrombosis in the calf, but a few femoral vein thrombosis may exist alone. Signs include tenderness in the adductor canal, popliteal fossa, and deep calf. Mild edema often occurs in the affected calf and ankle, and the venous pressure of the affected limb is 2 to 3 times higher than that of the healthy side. Homans sign is positive or negative.

3. Iliofemoral vein thrombosis

The vast majority of iliofemoral vein thrombosis is secondary to deep vein thrombosis in the lower leg, but sometimes it is primary in the iliofemoral vein or iliac vein. Postpartum women with pelvic fractures, pelvic surgery, and patients with advanced cancer are prone to lesions. The incidence in the deep veins of the left lower limb is 2 to 3 times higher than that on the right side. This may be because the left common iliac vein has a longer course and part of the left common iliac vein cavity is compressed by the right common iliac artery. Occasionally, it may be due to a congenital reticular malformation at the junction of the left common iliac vein and the inferior vena cava.

Operations around the veins of the adjacent limbs or pelvis should be gentle to avoid damage to the lining. Avoid placing a pillow under the calf after surgery to affect the return of the deep veins in the calf. Encourage the patient's feet and toes to move actively and take deep breaths and cough more often, and get out of bed as early as possible. Wear medical elastic stockings on the lower limbs when necessary. Pay more attention to the elderly, cancer or heart disease patients, those with a larger chest, abdominal or pelvic cavity after surgery, femoral fractures, and postpartum women.
