What does a positive hepatitis B surface antibody test mean?

Nowadays, most people often find abnormal liver function tests when doing the five hepatitis B tests, and some will be positive. Most of them are caused by hepatitis B. There is a reason why the hepatitis B antibody surface will be positive. As long as everyone carefully checks and judges, they will know the mystery.

What does a positive hepatitis B surface antibody mean?

Why does the hepatitis B surface antibody show positive

① Hepatitis B surface antibody is an immune and protective antibody against hepatitis B virus. A positive hepatitis B surface antibody indicates that the person has been infected with hepatitis B virus in the past but the virus has been eliminated, or that the person has been vaccinated with hepatitis B vaccine and has produced protective antibodies. The higher the hepatitis B surface antibody titer in the serum, the stronger the protection. However, there are a small number of people who are positive for hepatitis B surface antibodies and yet develop hepatitis B. This may be due to infection with a different subtype or mutation of the hepatitis B virus.

② When the hepatitis B virus invades the human body, it stimulates the human immune system to produce an immune response. The B lymphocytes in the human immune system secrete a specific immunoglobulin G, which is the surface antibody. It can specifically bind to the surface antigen and then work together with other immune functions of the human body to eliminate the virus and protect the body from being infected by the hepatitis B virus. Therefore, the surface antibody is called a protective antibody.

③Many people only know that a “+” (positive) result in the five hepatitis B tests is not good, and therefore they mistakenly believe that a positive hepatitis B surface antibody result is also a bad thing. In fact, this is not the case. Hepatitis B surface antibodies are protective antibodies of the human body. They are not only beneficial to the human body, but also can protect the human body from invasion by hepatitis B virus! Therefore, a positive hepatitis B surface antibody is normal.

Experts point out that the surface antigen itself is not a complete hepatitis B virus, but the outer shell of the hepatitis B virus. It is not contagious but only antigenic. It is only one of the signs of hepatitis B virus infection; it can indicate past infection with hepatitis B virus or current infection with hepatitis B virus.

Experts point out that a positive hepatitis B antigen means that the first item in the five hepatitis B tests is positive, that is, HBsag is positive. Experts suggest that a positive hepatitis B surface antigen means that the body is infected with the hepatitis B virus.

Generally, those who test positive for hepatitis B surface antigen for the first time should be retested once after 1/2 to 2 weeks, and serum alanine hydrogen transferase (abbreviated as transaminase), hepatitis B core antibody immunoglobulin M, hepatitis B core antibody, hepatitis B e antigen, hepatitis B e antibody and hepatitis B surface antibody should be checked at the same time.

What does a positive hepatitis B surface antibody test mean? Experts remind that once the test results are confirmed, it is important to receive treatment promptly to avoid more serious consequences.
