How to treat blocked tear ducts

How to treat blocked tear ducts

Blockage of the tear duct is a common eye disease, which often occurs at the junction of the lacrimal duct and the nasolacrimal duct. The most common symptom is tearing. If the treatment is not thorough, there is even a risk of inducing infection. During the treatment process, we must pay attention to anti-inflammatory, and we must restore and establish the drainage channel from the internal capsule to the nasal cavity. You should also pay attention to hygiene, wash your hands frequently, and don't rub your eyes with your hands.

1. Probing and catheterization

The method of repeatedly probing and gradually enlarging the probe to expand the nasolacrimal duct can be used. This method is effective for a small number of mild obstructions or fibrin adhesion obstructions, but it is difficult to be effective if there is already a fixed scar. After probing, a suture, such as silk, intestinal, polyethylene or silicone tube, is placed and left in place for 3 to 6 months to form a channel.

2. Blockage incision

There are many ways to open the nose, such as opening with a special knife, electrocoagulation or electrolysis, and opening the blockage from the upper route or retrograde route into the nose.

3. Nasolacrimal duct graft surgery

After probing and enlarging the nasolacrimal duct, a prosthetic tube with an inner diameter of 1.5 to 3 mm was inserted.

4. Dacryocystorhinostomy

The ideal way to treat lacrimal sac obstruction is dacryocystorhinostomy.

5. Laser lacrimal ductoplasty

This surgical method uses laser to open the narrow obstruction of the tear duct, common tear duct or nasolacrimal duct, combined with drug infusion, to restore the physiological channel of the tear duct.

prevention

1. It is recommended to wash hands frequently and avoid rubbing eyes at will. It is recommended to wash your face with running water, and towels, handkerchiefs and other items should be kept separate from others and cleaned and disinfected frequently.

2. Swimming in public swimming areas is prohibited. Medical staff must wash and disinfect their hands after contact with patients to prevent cross infection.

3. Those who work in windy, dusty, and smoky environments should improve the environment and wear protective glasses to prevent conjunctivitis.

4. Carry out hygiene publicity, regular inspections and strengthened management in public places such as bathrooms, restaurants and swimming pools.
