What to do if you have pain in your groin area?

Many people don't care about groin pain, especially if it's just a slight pain, but in general, no matter what kind of pain you have, you should not take it lightly, because it may be a hint that something is wrong somewhere in your body. Groin pain is a common symptom of many diseases, mostly affecting men. So what should you do if you have pain in the groin area?

1. Inspection

The groin is a triangular area on both sides of the lower abdomen. Its medial boundary is the outer edge of the rectus abdominis muscle, its upper boundary is the horizontal line from the anterior superior iliac spine to the outer edge of the rectus abdominis muscle, and its lower boundary is the inguinal ligament. This area is relatively weak. A variety of diseases can cause groin pain. After puncturing the lower abdomen and injecting contrast agent, change body position and take a prone X-ray 2-4 minutes later. This method is simple and relatively safe. The positive rate of patent processus vaginalis is about 95%. It may also be accompanied by symptoms of mechanical intestinal obstruction such as paroxysmal abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and abdominal distension.

2. Differential diagnosis

Inguinal lymphadenitis is one of the main causes of inguinal pain. Inguinal pain is likely to be caused by infection or inflammation of the lower limb lymphatic system, which causes local pain in the inguinal area. However, local swollen lymph nodes can be palpated by oneself, and there is tenderness. Some may be accompanied by lower limb edema. Clinically, B-ultrasound and routine blood tests can generally be used for diagnosis, and the treatment is mainly antibiotics.

After an inguinal hernia occurs, there may be pulling pain in the groin and the formation of a local soft mass, which is obvious when standing and disappears when lying down. Local physical examination and B-ultrasound can also be used for diagnosis, and the main treatment is surgery.

Male varicocele may present with a distended pain in the scrotum and a pulling pain in the groin, but this usually improves after lying down. There is also local thickening and tenderness of the spermatic cord. Frequent attacks require surgical treatment. In addition, prostatitis, which is common in men, can sometimes cause groin pain.

Local muscle strain, ligament strain, and nerve damage can cause local pain. Common clinical masses, ovarian cyst pedicle torsion, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc. can all cause groin pain.

Diseases such as herniated disc and piriformis syndrome can cause pain in the lower back and lower limbs, and sometimes the pain radiates to the groin area.

3. Mitigation methods

Living a moderate life, paying attention to rest, combining work and rest, living an orderly life, and maintaining an optimistic, positive and upward attitude towards life are very helpful in preventing diseases. Have regular meals, regular daily routine, avoid overwork, maintain a cheerful mood, and develop good living habits. You can consume more high-fiber and fresh vegetables and fruits, and have a balanced diet, including essential nutrients such as protein, sugar, fat, vitamins, trace elements and dietary fiber. Combine meat and vegetables, diversify food varieties, and give full play to the complementary effects of nutrients between foods.
