What harm does static electricity do to people

Static electricity is very common in our daily life. It is a common physical phenomenon. The static electricity we usually come into contact with is mainly caused by the friction of clothing. Under normal circumstances, this kind of static electricity has a relatively small impact on the health of the body. Although the voltage of this kind of static electricity is relatively high, the current is usually small, and it only causes an occasional tingling sensation. Of course, we should also try to reduce the harm of static electricity to people and learn some preventive measures.

What harm does static electricity do to people?

Static electricity may change the inherent potential difference of the human body and have adverse effects on human organs, especially the heart. Static electricity may also cause abnormal heart rate or premature heart beats. It may also change the direction of brain current flow, affect the nervous system, and make people feel tired, irritable, and anxious.

Electricity prevention measures

Try to choose pure cotton products as fabrics for home decorations, and avoid using chemical fiber carpets and furniture with plastic surface materials to prevent frictional electrification.

The elderly, children, people who are sensitive to static electricity, heart patients with undiagnosed causes, neurasthenia and mental patients, etc. are advised not to wear underwear made of synthetic fibers in winter. Try to wear soft cotton or silk underwear to regulate the microclimate between the skin and underwear and reduce the generation of static electricity.

Keep away from electrical appliances such as computers, televisions, refrigerators, etc. as much as possible to prevent induction electrification. The television should not be placed in the bedroom. At the same time, people should open the windows when watching TV and keep a distance of 2 to 3 meters from the TV.

When dry weather occurs, the room should be ventilated frequently, the floor should be mopped frequently, water should be sprinkled frequently, or ornamental fish and potted flowers should be raised indoors; if conditions permit, a humidifier can be used to increase the indoor humidity, and it is best to keep the air humidity at around 50%; if there are heating pipes at home, a basin of water can be placed under the heating pipes, and an old towel (or a cloth that absorbs well) can be placed with one end in the water and the other end on the heating pipes to evaporate a certain amount of hot water vapor into the house.

Taking a bath and changing clothes frequently can effectively eliminate static electricity and charged dust accumulated on the human body surface; you can also add an appropriate amount of softener when washing clothes.

Eat more vegetables, fruits, yogurt and other alkaline foods, drink plenty of water, and supplement calcium and vitamin C to reduce the impact of static electricity. Appropriately increase the intake of foods containing vitamins C, A, and E, such as carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, and fruits such as bananas, apples, kiwis, etc. which contain a lot of vitamin C. Hairtail and turtle can increase the elasticity and moisturizing properties of the skin and have good anti-static function.

Wash your hands and face promptly after watching TV or using the computer to allow the static charge on the skin surface to be released in the water.

After taking off your clothes, touch the wall gently with your hand before touching door handles, faucets and other electrical conductors. You can also touch the conductor with your fingernails or rub your hands together before touching a wet towel or other items to quickly release the static electricity stored in your body, so as to reduce and avoid the harm of static electricity to human health.

Before combing your hair, dip the comb in water to prevent static electricity. When your hair cannot be combed smoothly, soak the comb in water. After the static electricity is eliminated, you can comb your hair as you like.

Touch certain conductive objects with large volume or surface area with your hands, such as car shells, security doors, metal cabinets, refrigerators, washing machines, bicycles, radiators, water pipes, water, wet trees and the ground. When you feel that you may be charged (such as just getting off a car or taking off your coat), just touch them to discharge the static electricity without any discomfort.
