What are the effects of rabies vaccination

What are the effects of rabies vaccination

Nowadays, people love pets more and more, and some families may keep two or three pets. There are certain safety risks. That is, if you are bitten by a pet, you need to get a rabies vaccine. Generally, rabies vaccine is given after the bite in order to better prevent rabies. If you are bitten on the same day, you should be injected on the same day. The vaccine is valid for six months.

1. Rabies vaccine is generally given in these two situations

1. Prevention after bite. For general bites, i.e. mild abrasions, scratches or licks on broken skin without bleeding, one ampoule of the vaccine should be injected on days 0 (day 1, the day of injection), 3 (day 4, and so on), 7, 14, and 30. For severe bites, in addition to injecting the vaccine as described above, double the dose of vaccine should be injected on days 0 and 3, and anti-rabies serum should be used at the same time as the vaccine on day 0. Anyone who uses anti-rabies serum or immunoglobulin in combination must get 2-3 booster shots of vaccine after the full course of vaccination is completed, i.e., one booster shot each on the 15th, 75th day, or the 10th, 20th, and 90th day after the full course of vaccination.

2. For the following 7 situations, including those who have been injected with anti-rabies serum one day before vaccination, chronic patients such as those with cirrhosis, immunodeficiency, taking immunosuppressive drugs, the elderly, the severely malnourished, and those who start immunization 48 hours after a bite, the vaccine dose should be increased by 2-3 times during the initial vaccination and injected in different parts of the body to achieve a better immune effect. In addition, although some injuries are minor, the amount of invading virus is large or the nerve-rich areas are damaged, which may result in a short incubation period and cases where vaccination alone is ineffective.

3. No bite prevention. For healthy people who have not been bitten, three injections can be given at 0, 7 and 21 days. Give a booster shot one year later, and then another booster shot every 1-3 years thereafter.

2. Rabies vaccine validity period

1. After the human rabies vaccine is injected and antibodies are produced, the immunity is effective for 6 months. These 6 months mean that if you are bitten by a dog again within 6 months after the injection, you do not need to be vaccinated.

2. If you are bitten by a healthy dog during the period of rabies vaccination or within 6 months after the production of anti-rabies antibodies through vaccination testing, you can immediately wash the wound thoroughly with plenty of soapy water without the need for vaccination. If you are bitten by a rabies dog or a suspected rabies dog, you should receive two shots of vaccine on days 0 and 7.
