What is the effect of hand and foot vaccination

As the saying goes, trouble comes from the mouth and illness comes from the hands. This is what is meant by hand, foot and mouth disease. It refers to various diseases or infectious diseases caused by bacteria coming into contact with the hands and feet or viruses being breathed in through the mouth and then entering the human stomach and intestines. The hand and foot vaccine is a vaccine that prevents the occurrence of this disease as much as possible. However, drug prevention alone is not enough. We also need physical prevention in our lives, such as developing good hygiene habits, washing hands and feet frequently, and avoiding sharing personal belongings with others.

What is hand, foot and mouth disease? Hand, foot and mouth disease is an infectious disease caused by enterovirus infection, which is common in children under 5 years old. The peak incidence period is from May to July each year.

Why do we think this disease is so scary? There are two main reasons: First, the early stages of hand, foot and mouth disease are no different from common fever and upper respiratory tract infection, and are easily misdiagnosed. Sometimes, hand, foot and mouth disease is not discovered until herpes appears on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and oral mucosa. Second, hand, foot and mouth disease is common in infants and young children. A small number of patients have severe conditions, which may be complicated by encephalitis, meningitis, myocarditis, pneumonia, pulmonary edema, nervous system infection, etc. If not treated in time, it may be life-threatening.

Most parents panic when they hear that there is a possibility of death. How terrible it sounds! But in fact, most hand, foot and mouth disease patients suffer from "mild symptoms" rather than "severe symptoms". Among all hand, foot and mouth disease patients, only 2.4 per thousand are severe patients, which means there is a chance of developing serious complications or even death. Mild cases are not that scary.

Things to note when getting the hand, foot and mouth disease vaccine

1. Generally, the hand, foot and mouth disease EV71 vaccine should not be administered at the same time as other vaccines. It is recommended that there should be an interval of 2 weeks or more between administration and other vaccines.

2. People who are allergic to any substance in the vaccine, those with fever, acute illness, severe chronic diseases, and allergic constitutions (such as allergy to protein) are prohibited from taking the hand, foot and mouth disease vaccine.

3. The adverse reaction symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease vaccine include occasional fever and less common mild reactions such as local pain and swelling, which can generally resolve on their own.

Prevention of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

How do we prevent children from getting hand, foot and mouth disease? This mainly starts by cultivating good hygiene habits in children. The key to preventing hand, foot and mouth disease is to pay attention to the hygiene of the family and surrounding environment, and pay attention to personal hygiene. Wash your hands with soap or hand sanitizer before meals, after defecation and after going out; do not drink raw water or eat raw or cold food; ventilate the room frequently; and dry your clothes and quilts frequently. During the epidemic, do not take children to public places with dense crowds and poor air circulation, and avoid contact with sick children.

Another very important point is not to mix tableware with children, such as using adult chopsticks and spoons to feed children. Because many adults will not have obvious symptoms after infection, but will transmit the virus to children through poor hygiene habits. It is recommended to use separate tableware for children at home and bring convenient tableware when dining out.
