Diseases that you should be alert to when your hands feel numb

When we often experience numbness in our hands and feet, such as after exercise or when sleeping, we should pay more attention to our physical condition. There are many diseases that can cause numbness in the hands, the most common ones include cervical spondylosis, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, etc. We should be vigilant. The specific causes of numbness in the hands can be referred to as follows.

1. Causes of numbness in hands and feet:

1. Cervical spondylosis

Numbness in the hands is a common cause. People who sit next to a computer for a long time or drive are at high risk. Herniated or hyperplastic cervical discs compress the adjacent cervical vertebrae and cause temporary numbness in the fingers, but if it does not occur frequently, be alert and see an orthopedic doctor.

2. Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases

If there is a stroke, the area controlled by the brain will become numb and weak.

A few days ago, there was a 50-year-old patient in the outpatient clinic. He was tall and had a big belly. He always felt that he was young and in good health. More than two months ago, he felt numbness in his hands and feet. He thought it was a minor problem. In addition, it was winter, so he soaked his hands and feet in a foot basin and did foot massage, but did not take any measures. 6 days ago, when I woke up, I opened my eyes as usual, but I felt that I couldn't lift my right eyelid. I wanted to touch it with my hand, but I felt that my right hand had lost sensation. He went to the hospital and was diagnosed with hemiplegia due to stroke.

3. Vascular factors

When we sit in an incorrect posture and sit for a long time, it will cause numbness in the lower limbs; or if the hands are placed in an incorrect posture, numbness will also occur; when we move our limbs, the numbness and soreness are like a hundred claws scratching our hearts. This is because the blood vessels are compressed and the blood supply to the limbs cannot keep up, causing numbness. The passive body position causes compression and contact, and the blood flows through, feeling like needles. We are bound to encounter bumps and bruises in life. When the elbow joint of the upper limb accidentally hits a hard object, or the ulnar artery or radial artery of the upper limb is compressed at a certain point, numbness will occur.

Pathological numbness of one side of the limbs is most commonly caused by transient ischemic attack and atherosclerosis of the internal and external cerebral arteries. It is more common in the elderly and should be taken seriously and the patient should seek medical attention from the neurology department in time.

4. Peripheral neuritis

The resulting numbness in the fingers is usually accompanied by pain and weakness, and occurs symmetrically on both sides. You can go to a neurology department to find out the cause.
