Why do I feel itchy all over when running

In daily life, many people will feel itchy all over their body after running, which makes people very confused whether it is a manifestation of some kind of disease. In fact, this situation often occurs in people who used to have exercise habits but suddenly exercised vigorously after a break in the middle. It often occurs in the cold winter. It is generally caused by obstruction of qi and blood, and the blood flow suddenly increases after the capillaries contract.

1. Qi and blood are blocked

This is generally normal. It can be understood as obstruction of qi and blood. When exercising, blood circulation accelerates and the body begins to sweat. However, because the subcutaneous capillaries in some parts of the body are narrow and the skin pores are tightened, the capillaries cannot bear the pressure brought by the accelerated blood flow and the pores cannot eliminate the sweat, which causes itching. If you feel itchy while exercising, stop and walk slowly to give the capillaries and pores time to expand. The itching will be relieved after a while. After the itching is relieved, exercise again and you will not feel as itchy as before. Repeat this and the itching will gradually disappear.

Second, it may be caused by capillary contraction

This situation usually occurs when people have exercise habits in the past but suddenly engage in strenuous exercise after not exercising for a long time. It is more common in winter. This is mainly due to long-term lack of exercise, which leads to low blood flow to muscles and compensatory contraction of capillaries (especially when the weather is cold). During sudden intense exercise, especially aerobic exercise with high blood flow and strong muscle stimulation (such as running), the oxygen demand of muscle cells increases rapidly, and the capillary blood flow increases.

① It causes blood vessels to expand in volume and compress the nerves in the surrounding tissues; ② The permeability of capillaries increases, such as the secretion of bradykinin and other polypeptide substances for vasodilation, which acts on the unmyelinated nerve endings and causes itching. The reason why it occurs in people who have exercised in the past is that these people have a better body stress response, large muscle mass, and a large demand for blood oxygen; when the weather is cold, the peripheral blood flow is less, and the contraction and expansion of capillaries are more obvious. Therefore, this kind of itching usually appears during exercise and will gradually subside as the exercise time continues; if you stop halfway, it will slowly weaken as the heartbeat slows down (① effect disappears), and completely disappear after a period of time (1h?) (② effect disappears).
