What to do if a toenail is broken in half

What to do if a toenail is broken in half

Nowadays, people's pursuit of beauty is really everywhere. Now that the hot summer is here, the feet that usually wear shoes and socks are exposed. Therefore, manicures have also been extended to toenails. Although each nail is not there, beautiful patterns can be made on it. However, if the nail is broken in half, then this beauty cannot be continued. So, no matter whether it is a fingernail or a toenail, what should you do if it is broken in half? Let's talk about this topic together below.

1. Try to reduce direct contact between your nails and objects, or use your nails as tools. Use your fingernails instead of your nails to reduce the chance of injuring your nails.

2. If the cuticle of the nail has shrunk or disappeared, soak it in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes every day, gently dry it with a hot towel, and then massage from the end close to the body to the far end to allow the cuticle to grow again. In addition, you can use maintenance cream to apply to the nail cuticle to reduce cracking and peeling.

3. Keep your hands dry. Germs are not easy to grow in dry conditions, and the chance of infection will be reduced.

4. Reduce contact with various irritants, such as soap, organic solvents, etc. If contact with irritants is necessary, wear protective gloves if possible.

5. Choose nail polish or polish that does not contain formaldehyde or acetone, and replace it with products containing acetate. It is best not to use it more than once a week, and the nail polish should not stay on the nails for more than 5 days.

6. For injured or cracked nails, you can apply nail repair cream sold on the market once every other day. Nail repair creams containing fruit acids or phospholipids are preferred.

Although nails appear to be as hard as bones, they are actually very permeable to water. Water travels through your nails a hundred times faster than it travels through the outer layer of your skin. If nails are soaked in water for too long, they will swell due to moisture, then shrink, destroying the nail structure, and even causing the ridges to split or break. Brittle nails are caused not only by prolonged contact with water, but also by a lack of protein, iron, calcium, sulfur, zinc in the diet, or insufficient vitamins A, B, and C, as well as chronic diseases, oral contraceptives, and nail polish. These can all lead to a variety of adverse consequences.
