Recovery period after acoustic neuroma surgery

Recovery period after acoustic neuroma surgery

Many friends will undergo surgery to treat acoustic neuroma. However, after the operation, patients with acoustic neuroma think that they are healthy, which is completely wrong. If acoustic neuroma patients do not recover optimally after surgery, they are likely to suffer from various complications. Therefore, during the recovery period after acoustic neuroma surgery, acoustic neuroma patients should carry out daily rehabilitation.

Are patients with acoustic neuroma all set after surgery? You are totally wrong. Many patients with acoustic neuroma do not recover well after surgery, which leads to other complications and has a great impact on the body. So what should patients pay attention to after acoustic neuroma surgery?

Acoustic neurothecoma originates from the acoustic nerve sheath and is a typical neurothecoma. This tumor is one of the common intracranial tumors. This tumor is more common in middle-aged people, with the peak age being 30 to 50 years old. The youngest patient is 8 years old, and the oldest can be over 70 years old. Solitary acoustic neuroma is very rare in children. Most tumors occur in the vestibular segment of the acoustic nerve. Most tumors are unilateral, and a few are bilateral; this tumor is a benign lesion and will not become malignant or metastatic even if it recurs multiple times. If it can be removed, a permanent cure can often be achieved. However, since the tumor is adjacent to the important brain stem, surgical resection remains a great challenge for neurosurgeons or otolaryngologists. The application of intraoperative microscopes and the progress of neuroradiology, such as CT and MRI, can make early or qualitative diagnosis of tumors, allowing the tumor to be safely removed.

Notes for patients with acoustic neuroma

Patients with acoustic neuroma should have a light diet and eat more vegetables; avoid spicy and irritating foods, such as ginger, garlic, leek, pepper, chili, etc.; avoid smoking and drinking.

1. Eat at regular times and in regular amounts. Do not overeat or have picky eating habits. Intake of nutrients and calories should be planned.

2. Eat more vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins A and C. Eat foods that contain substances that inhibit cancer cells regularly, such as cabbage, shepherd's purse, mushrooms, etc.

3. Eat less refined rice and refined noodles, and eat more whole grains, corn, beans and other whole grains.

4. Low-fat diet. Eat lean meat, eggs and yogurt regularly. Eat less salted, smoked, grilled, burnt, charred, and spoiled food.

5. Eat dried fruits often, such as walnuts, pumpkin seeds, watermelon seeds, peanuts, raisins, etc. They are rich in vitamins and trace elements, cellulose, protein and unsaturated fatty acids, and have high nutritional value.

6. Keep the respiratory tract open: After the operation, the patient should be encouraged to cough and expectorate. For those who have difficulty expectorating, the sputum should be suctioned thoroughly and regularly. Start turning over and changing body positions 6 hours after the operation, and tap the back to loosen the sputum and facilitate its discharge.

7. Participate in proper physical exercise, strengthen your body, and breathe more outside air. Your mood will become cheerful, which is very beneficial to your recovery from your illness.

Therefore, patients with acoustic neuroma need not only to avoid certain foods after surgery, but also to improve their immunity and strengthen exercise. Finally, I wish all patients a speedy recovery and good health.
