Muscle atrophy due to plaster

Muscle atrophy due to plaster

If our muscles are not exercised for a long time, they are likely to atrophy. If there is a problem with our bones and we need to use plaster to fix them, it will cause our muscles to atrophy. In the face of muscle atrophy, patients need to undergo timely rehabilitation after removing the plaster, which will help our muscle recovery. So, how can we treat muscle atrophy ourselves?

Muscular atrophy (myatrophy; myophagism) refers to the reduction in muscle volume caused by nutritional disorders of skeletal muscles, thinning or even disappearance of muscle fibers. It is mostly caused by muscle diseases or nervous system dysfunction. The main causes are: neurogenic muscular atrophy, myogenic muscular atrophy, disuse muscular atrophy and muscular atrophy due to other reasons. In addition to pathological changes in muscle tissue itself, muscle nutritional status is also closely related to the nervous system. Spinal cord disease often leads to muscular dystrophy and muscle atrophy. Patients with muscular atrophy have to stay in bed for a long time due to muscle atrophy and muscle weakness, and are prone to complications such as pneumonia, pressure sores, etc. In addition, most patients experience symptoms of medullary paralysis, which poses a great threat to their lives.

Self-regulation

In addition to seeking medical treatment, self-treatment is very important for patients with muscular dystrophy:

1. Maintain an optimistic and happy mood

Intense, long-term or repeated mental stress, anxiety, irritability, pessimism and other emotional changes can cause an imbalance in the excitation and inhibition processes of the cerebral cortex and promote the development of muscular atrophy.

2. Rationally adjust the diet structure

Patients with muscular atrophy need high-protein, high-energy dietary supplements to provide the substances necessary for the reconstruction of nerve cells and skeletal muscle cells in order to enhance muscle strength and grow muscle. In the early stage, they should adopt high-protein foods rich in vitamins, phospholipids and trace elements, and actively cooperate with qi-invigorating and spleen-strengthening medicinal foods, such as yam, astragalus, white lotus, tangerine peel, pseudostellaria, lily, etc., avoid spicy foods, and quit smoking and drinking. For patients in the middle and late stages, a high-protein, high-nutrition, energy-rich semi-liquid and liquid diet is the main diet, and small and frequent meals are adopted to maintain the patient's nutrition and water and electrolyte balance.

3. Combine work and rest

Avoid forced functional exercise, because forced functional exercise will cause skeletal muscle fatigue, which is not conducive to the recovery of skeletal muscle function, regeneration and repair of muscle cells.

4. Prevent colds and gastroenteritis

Because patients with muscular atrophy have low immune function or some kind of immune deficiency, once they catch a cold, their condition will worsen, the course of the disease will be prolonged, and muscle atrophy and muscle twitching will worsen. Especially patients with bulbar palsy are prone to lung infection. If not treated in time, the prognosis will be poor and even the patient's life will be endangered. Gastroenteritis can lead to dysfunction of intestinal flora, especially viral gastroenteritis, which can cause varying degrees of damage to the anterior horn cells of the spinal cord, thereby causing recurrence or aggravation of muscular atrophy. Maintaining normal digestive function for patients with muscular atrophy is the basis for recovery.
