Yellow medicine is banned

Mercurochrome is a preservative used for sterilization and disinfection. It can sterilize wounds on the surface of the skin and kill purulent bacteria, thus restoring injured skin to health sooner. Mercurochrome is a commonly used disinfectant in surgery, but as more and more drugs were discovered, mercurochrome was gradually replaced. Now mercurochrome has been banned. Let’s take a look at the specific reasons.

Mercurochrome, whose scientific name is "ethacridine lactate solution", is also called "Levanol" and "Levanol". It is a disinfectant and preservative that can mainly kill pyogenic cocci and is non-irritating to tissues. Its 2% to 3% aqueous solution is often used for wound disinfection. It should not be used in combination with chlorine-containing solutions, chlorides, iodides, phenol, iodine preparations and alkaline drugs. Drug interactions may occur if used with other drugs. Please consult your doctor or pharmacist for details.

1. The scientific name of mercurochrome is "ethacridine lactate solution", also known as "Levanol" and "Levanol", which is a disinfectant and preservative.

2. Main function: It can mainly kill pyogenic cocci and is non-irritating to tissues. Its 2% to 3% aqueous solution is often used for wound disinfection. Mercurochrome is one of the commonly used disinfectants in surgery. It is a dye-based antibacterial agent with strong bactericidal power. It is mainly used for skin disinfection, mucous membranes and other sensitive areas. It is very mild and will not hurt the skin. If the hand wound is shallow, just apply some mercurochrome and pay attention to it. It is best not to bandage it.

3. Key points: It should not be used in combination with chlorine-containing solutions, chlorides, iodides, phenol, iodine preparations and alkaline drugs.

Pharmacological action: Disinfectant and antiseptic

Identification method:

(1) Take about 10 ml of this product, add dilute hydrochloric acid to make it acidic, and then add 1 ml of sodium nitrite test solution, which will turn cherry red.

(2) Take about 10 ml of this product and add sodium hydroxide solution to make it alkaline, which will cause a yellow precipitate to precipitate. Filter the filtrate and add 2 ml of sulfuric acid solution (3→100) and a few drops of potassium permanganate solution. It turns purple-red immediately, and the color disappears after heating.

Check: pH should be between 5.0 and 7.5 (Appendix VI H). Take this product in the filling quantity and check it according to the minimum filling quantity inspection method (Appendix ⅩF), which should comply with the regulations.

Assay:

Accurately measure 50 ml of this product, place it in a 100 ml volumetric flask, add 15 ml of water, 20 ml of sodium acetate test solution and 1.25 ml of dilute hydrochloric acid, then accurately add 10 ml of potassium dichromate titrant (0.016 67 mol/L), dilute to the scale with water, shake well, let it stand for 1 hour, shake from time to time, filter, accurately measure 50 ml of the filtrate, place it in an iodine bottle, add 30 ml of dilute sulfuric acid and 6 ml of potassium iodide test solution, immediately seal it, shake well, let it stand in the dark for 5 minutes, add 50 ml of water, titrate with sodium thiosulfate titrant (0.025 mol/L), add 3 ml of starch indicator solution when it is close to the end point, continue to titrate until the blue color disappears and bright green appears, and correct the titration result with a blank test. Each 1ml of potassium dichromate titration solution (0.016 67mol/L) is equivalent to 11.45mg of C15H15N3O·C3H6O3.
