What is the pancreatic islet?

The pancreas is a very important organ in the human body. We all know the disease of diabetes. The reason why many people suffer from diabetes is closely related to the insulin in the body. In daily life, we must pay attention to the protection of this organ. The pancreas belongs to the human endocrine system and plays an irreplaceable role in regulating blood sugar stability. Many people do not know what organ insulin is. Let's learn about it in detail below.

What is the pancreatic islet?

The endocrine part of the pancreas is an irregular group of cells scattered throughout the pancreas. There are at least three types of cells in the pancreatic islets: A (or a2) cells secrete glucagon; B (or β) cells secrete insulin; and recently a type of cell has been discovered, called D (or δ or α1) cells, which under normal circumstances secrete growth hormone-releasing inhibitory hormone. When D cells proliferate or develop tumors, they secrete large amounts of gastrin, which is called a gastrinoma. It can cause peptic ulcers due to excessive secretion of gastric acid. These cells of the pancreatic islets are close to the capillaries. The hormones they secrete penetrate into the blood through the capillary walls and have the function of regulating sugar metabolism.

Insulin is a protein hormone that is secreted by pancreatic β cells. Next to the duodenum in the human body, there is a long organ called the pancreas. Scattered throughout the pancreas are numerous groups of cells called islets. Insulin is a protein hormone secreted by pancreatic β cells in response to endogenous or exogenous substances. Insulin can promote the uptake and utilization of glucose by tissues such as the liver, muscles and fat, and is the only hormone in the body that can lower blood sugar.

The organs that secrete insulin are the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. The pancreas has two parts. One is the pancreas, which is an exocrine gland that produces pancreatic juice. The other is the islets, which are like islands in the sea. They are organs composed of piles of cells inside the pancreas. The islets are endocrine glands that produce insulin. Therefore, the pancreas is the only gland in the human body that is both an exocrine gland and an endocrine gland, a special organ. Insulin is the main hormone that promotes anabolism and regulates blood sugar stability.

Insulin is a protein hormone. Insulin in the body is secreted by pancreatic β cells. Next to the duodenum in the human body, there is a long organ called the pancreas. Scattered throughout the pancreas are numerous groups of cells called islets. There are approximately 1 to 2 million islets in the pancreas. The main function is to regulate the blood sugar level in the body. It can help lower blood sugar.
