What is the reason for slow blood clotting

If your finger is cut and bleeding, but the blood coagulation speed is very slow, or you have to press the needle hole for a long time before the bleeding stops after the infusion, then you should pay attention to it, because the slow blood coagulation may be caused by low platelets. Generally speaking, for healthy people, the blood will not coagulate so slowly, but will coagulate within 5-6 minutes. Patients with low platelet counts should find out the cause as soon as possible.

1. Causes of slow blood coagulation

If the blood coagulates slowly, it may be caused by a coagulation dysfunction and you need to go to the hospital for further examination, such as five coagulation tests or a routine blood test. After a clear diagnosis, symptomatic treatment will be given. If necessary, a bone marrow aspiration may be done. First check your blood routine to see if your platelet count is low. Check whether it is simple thrombocytopenia or other blood cells are abnormal to rule out blood system diseases. Low platelet count, lack of coagulation factors or destruction can lead to slow coagulation. It is recommended to check platelets. The main physiological function of platelets is to promote hemostasis, accelerate coagulation and prevent bleeding. Congenital ones may be due to hemophilia, while acquired ones may be due to taking anticoagulants, severe infection, and excessive blood loss, all of which may cause slow blood clotting.

2. The process of blood coagulation

The phenomenon that blood changes from a sol state to a gel state of blood clots is called blood coagulation. When blood flows out of human blood vessels, it will coagulate. Blood coagulation is the result of a series of complex chemical chain reactions, the final stage of which is the conversion of fibrinogen originally dissolved in plasma into insoluble fibrin. Fibrin, like filaments, crisscross and overlap with each other during the formation process, entrapping blood cells and causing the originally sol-state blood to gradually turn into a gel-state blood clot. After the blood clot is formed, the contraction of platelet contractile protein causes the blood clot to shrink and harden, and a light yellow transparent liquid - serum - is precipitated.

3. What to eat for low platelet count

For patients with thrombocytopenia, it is recommended to give them a high-protein diet, such as milk, lean meat, fish, eggs, beans, etc. At the same time, patients with thrombocytopenia should choose cold foods. Vegetables and fruits that are neutral and cool in nature are often helpful in stopping bleeding. Patients with thrombocytopenia accompanied by anemia should choose more iron-rich foods, such as animal liver, lean meat, egg yolk; vegetables such as amaranth, celery, kohlrabi, day lily, etc.; as well as common foods such as gluten, wheat bran, white fungus, and shiitake mushrooms. For patients with little or even unnoticeable bleeding, their diet should be based on the principles of strengthening the spleen, replenishing Qi, and absorbing blood. They can choose medicinal foods and dishes made from red dates, peanuts (skins), etc. Thrombocytopenia is prone to recurrence and is difficult to heal. You can add astragalus, red dates, yam, peanuts, lotus root nodes, agrimony, etc. to food to make porridge, decoction, soup, etc.
