Dull pain in the left back of my head

Dull pain in the left back of my head

Many people may wonder what is going on when there is a dull pain in the left back of the head. There are many reasons for this symptom. Traditional Chinese medicine says that pain occurs when there is blockage in the meridians. This is because the meridians are blocked, which causes pain. When we have a cold, we often experience a dull headache. Sometimes this situation may also occur due to lack of sleep or mental stress. The most common patients are those with high blood pressure, who sometimes also have symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.

Pain in the back of the head may be caused by:

1. Muscle contraction headache: also known as tension headache, often caused by work stress, fatigue, writing, reading, long-term computer work, incorrect posture and other factors, causing continuous contraction of the head, face or neck muscles, resulting in headache. Pain in the occipital area is also the result of spasm of the muscles in the back of the neck.

2. Cervical spondylosis headache: The most common areas of headache are the back of the neck and the occipital area. It is caused by hyperplastic cervical spondylitis or bone spurs compressing and irritating the cervical nerve roots, and bone hyperplasia may be seen in cervical spine films.

3. Occipital neuralgia: It may be caused by infection, local irritation or local muscle tension and traction. The headache is mainly located in the occipital area and neck, and there may be local tenderness at the Fengchi point behind the occipital bone. Occipital neuralgia may be secondary to cervical spine diseases or tumors, etc.

It is recommended to do relevant examinations of the brain and cervical spine , such as cervical spine films, CT scans, etc., to exclude headaches caused by organic lesions (which can be treated together). Treatment methods: 1. Remove the predisposing factors, such as fatigue, anxiety, tension, etc. After checking and identifying the cause, treat it accordingly.

2. Correct bad posture: Pay attention to preventing and correcting various bad postures to avoid continuous contraction of the head, neck, shoulder and back muscles, such as long-term bending over a desk to write, read and work, operating the computer screen too close, etc.

3. Self-massage: Use the middle fingers of both hands to press the Fengchi point and temple area, rubbing in circles, which can relieve headaches.

4. Drug treatment: Zhengtian Pills are effective in treating tension headaches.
