Ammonia water is a liquid formed when ammonia gas is dissolved in water. It is mainly used in the agricultural textile industry and the chemical industry. Its application range is very wide. Ammonia water is a colorless, transparent liquid that is easy to evaporate. If you accidentally come into contact with ammonia, it will cause great harm to your body. The most obvious symptom is that it causes irritation and corrosive damage to human eyes, nose and skin upon contact. Health hazards of ammonia:After inhalation, it can affect the nose, throat and lungs, causing coughing, shortness of breath and wheezing. It can also cause suffocation and death due to laryngeal edema. It can also cause pulmonary edema and lead to death. If ammonia splashes into the eyes and no emergency measures are taken, it can cause corneal ulcers and perforations, and further cause intraocular inflammation, eventually causing eyeball atrophy and blindness. Contact with skin may cause burns. Chronic effects: Repeated exposure to low concentrations can cause bronchitis. Repeated touching of the skin can cause dermatitis, which manifests as dull, itchy and red skin. Polluted skin: The skin that comes into contact with ammonia may become red, swollen and hot. In severe cases, it may cause erythema, blisters, erosion, and even necrosis. At this time, you can quickly take off the contaminated clothes, rinse with clean water or 2% vinegar, and apply 2% boric acid solution if there are blisters or exudation.
It can cause eye pain, foreign body sensation, tearing, congestion and edema of the diaphragm, photophobia, corneal ulcer, perforation, anterior chamber hemorrhage, lens opacity, iris atrophy, etc. In severe cases, blindness may occur. When ammonia is found in the eye, Immediately use plenty of water or saline, 4% boric acid solution, 1% acetic acid, 1% lactic acid solution or other weak acid solution is used to rinse the eyes repeatedly to completely remove the residual ammonia in the eyes. After washing, some chloramphenicol eye ointment or chloramphenicol eye drops can be applied. If the swelling is severe, 0.5% hydrocortisone acetate eye drops and antibiotic solution can be used instead.
After inhalation of ammonia, due to its severe impact and corrosive effect on the mucous membrane, it can cause edema and congestion of the mucous membranes in the nose, throat and trachea, increase in secretions, sneezing, coughing, burning sensation in the throat, chest tightness, pain under the sternum, hoarseness, ammonia smell in the breath, shortness of breath and other symptoms. At this moment, the patient should be moved to a place with fresh air immediately. For mild cases, 1% ephedrine solution can be used for nasal drops, 10 ml of phenacin syrup can be taken three times a day; 800,000 units of penicillin can be taken twice a day by intramuscular injection. For those who develop mucosal erosion, chymotrypsin can be inhaled or dripped into the trachea. In case of laryngeal edema, antibiotic spray and inhalation can be replaced with dexamethasone, isoproterenol or a mixture of the two (0.5% isoproterenol 20 ml plus dexamethasone injection 5 mg). Oxygen inhalation and tracheotomy can be performed if necessary. |
