Symptoms of throat tumor

Tumors can occur in many places. They can grow in the brain, which is a more serious condition. Brain tumors can easily compress nerves and cause other injuries. Some tumors can also grow in the throat. The throat is the place where we must pass through for food to be ingested. Doctors recommend that treatment measures be taken as soon as possible once the problem is discovered, so that the chances of recovery will be very high. So what are the symptoms of throat tumors?

Laryngeal tumors are almost always curable if diagnosed early, but they can be dangerous if they metastasize to other parts of the body. Therefore, early treatment before metastasis is crucial to the cure of the disease. Growths in the throat can be benign (will not spread) or malignant (can spread and be life-threatening). There are two types of benign laryngeal tumors: papillomas, which are several that appear at the same time, and polyps, which usually appear one at a time. Both types of tumors can usually be removed without permanent adverse effects. This benign tumor appears to be caused by improper or overuse of the vocal cords. Most patients with malignant tumors are heavy smokers.

symptom

The only symptom of a laryngeal tumor is usually hoarseness. It does not cause the flu-like symptoms of laryngitis. If the tumor is malignant, it can spread, which is called cancer. Eventually, you'll have difficulty swallowing and a lump will become increasingly noticeable in your neck. Children's laryngeal airways are very narrow. If they suffer from laryngeal tumors, their voices will become high-pitched like a chicken's crow. This high-pitched sound is called stridor and is caused by airway obstruction.

Countermeasures

This type of disease must be treated by a doctor in the hospital. If it is a benign growth, whether it is a papilloma or a polyp, it can be removed with a minor surgical operation under local anesthesia. If a malignant tumor is discovered early, it can be treated with radiotherapy or partial laryngeal resection, with very good results. Regardless of the treatment method used, you can usually preserve all or part of your speech function. Advanced cancer may require removal of the entire larynx. Even in this case, the chances of recovery are high. If your entire larynx has been removed, there are several options for restoring your ability to speak. With the help of a speech therapist, you can learn to use your esophagus instead of your laryngeal voice. Or a therapist may teach you to use a special electronic pronunciation device, and you can use this device to speak by simply adjusting the movements of your tongue and teeth.
