The most common symptoms of spontaneous pneumothorax

People may not be very familiar with the disease of spontaneous pneumothorax. This disease is not very common around us. Acute attacks cause breathing difficulties and sometimes are life-threatening. This disease mostly occurs in young and middle-aged people, mainly caused by rupture of the lung cannon, which allows the gas in the lungs to enter the chest cavity and cause a series of symptoms. Chest pain is the most common symptom of spontaneous pneumothorax. Let us now take a closer look at the other most common symptoms of spontaneous pneumothorax.

The main cause of pneumothorax is the presence of bullae on the surface of lung tissue, ranging from one to many in number. Bullae look like inflated balloons with very thin walls, so they rupture easily. Once ruptured, air enters the chest cavity and pneumothorax occurs. The most common symptoms of spontaneous pneumothorax

1) Chest pain (90%): It is a typical manifestation of spontaneous pneumothorax and is also the most common symptom. It often occurs suddenly. At first, the chest pain is quite severe, but it will gradually ease after a few hours. After about 24-72 hours, the pain will gradually disappear.

2) Dyspnea (80%): This is another typical manifestation. Dyspnea often occurs in patients with severe lung leakage, with lung compression often >30%. This is because after pneumothorax occurs, the normal lung tissue is compressed by gas, becomes smaller, and the respiratory function decreases, causing hypoxia. The degree of dyspnea is also related to the lung function reserve. That is to say, at the same degree of lung compression, young people generally have milder chest tightness symptoms than older people.

3) Pleural effusion (about 20%): Patients with spontaneous pneumothorax may develop pleural effusion. Among them, a small number of patients suffer from spontaneous hemothorax: due to the pneumothorax, the lungs suddenly collapse, tearing off the adhesion bands and blood vessels, causing bleeding. In severe cases, it can lead to massive bleeding, shock, and life-threatening conditions, requiring emergency surgery. The above content is an introduction to the most common symptoms of spontaneous pneumothorax. I believe that after reading it, you will have a certain understanding of the most common symptoms of spontaneous pneumothorax. I hope it will be helpful to everyone.
