What should I do if water keeps getting into my ears while swimming freestyle?

When summer comes, it's time for swimming enthusiasts to get excited again. Swimming is a very good fitness exercise. It can not only help a person shape a perfect body, but also improve a person's physical fitness. In addition, data show that people who like swimming generally have a longer life span. However, before swimming, you must remember to protect your ears and take measures to prevent water from entering your ears. So what should you do if water keeps getting into your ears while swimming freestyle?

Category 1: For those who suffer from external otitis, external ear eczema, ear furuncle and cholesteatoma otitis media, swimming will aggravate the inflammation. People with purulent otitis media should also be prohibited from swimming if pus is still flowing from the ear or the perforation of the eardrum has not healed. The above patients can only swim after they are cured or have the doctor's consent.

Category 2: Before going into the water, you should wear swimming earplugs of the right size, or you can use a cotton ball or gauze strip coated with Vaseline ointment to plug the ear canal. But be careful not to keep it plugged in for too long, and wipe the inside of the ear canal clean after removing it to avoid affecting the discharge of bactericidal secretions from the skin of the external auditory canal.

After getting into the water, try to avoid having your ears half in the water and half above the water. This way, the air in your ears will not be squeezed out and water will not enter your ears.

The third category: You must learn to breathe in through your mouth and exhale through your nose to prevent water from entering your middle ear through the nasal cavity and the Eustachian tube when you breathe in through your nose. When water enters your nose, you should hold one nostril and gently blow the water out, or inhale it through the back nostril and exhale it out of your mouth. Do not pinch both nostrils at the same time and blow hard to avoid blowing water or mucus into the middle ear and causing inflammation.

Category 4: If the posture and method are incorrect, the body and head will tilt into the water, causing the ears to directly contact the water surface, which can easily injure the eardrum. Once the eardrum ruptures, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible and drain the water in the ear in time.

Category 5: You can also roll cotton wool into a twist, gently insert it into the ear canal, and absorb the water out. If the ear itches, gently wipe the external auditory canal with a cotton ball soaked in 75% alcohol.
