1. It is often difficult to tell the exact time of onset of congenital nystagmus, but the onset time and clinical course of acquired nystagmus can be clearly described because of the sensation of visual shaking or other symptoms. This is the basis for distinguishing congenital from acquired nystagmus.

2. It is best for the vision test to be performed personally by the doctor. Not only should the patient's monocular vision be checked, but also the vision when both eyes are looking at the same time, which is very important for the detection of latent nystagmus; not only the patient's near vision should be checked, but also the distance vision. The near vision of patients with congenital nystagmus is often better than the distance vision; not only the patient's naked eye vision should be checked, but also the corrected vision; not only the patient's vision in the normal eye position should be checked, but also the vision in the compensatory head position. Usually, the vision in the compensatory head position is clearer. And record the best visual acuity.

3. It is sometimes difficult to check fine nystagmus. The rhythm of nystagmus can be detected with the help of a slit lamp microscope. Prisms can magnify the range of eye movements. Nystagmography can provide a more accurate record.

4. In addition to a comprehensive eye examination, a physical examination should also be conducted, including ears, teeth, systemic pigmentation and development, etc. May help diagnose some neurologic causes of nystagmus.

Precautions

In daily life, you should pay attention to rest more, use your eyes less, try not to be exposed to glare light, and don't watch TV for a long time, otherwise it will cause visual fatigue. At the same time, pay attention to eye hygiene and do not rub your eyes with your hands. In addition, doing eye exercises every morning and evening can greatly help restore vision.
